So, the results for the SoCal Smackdown GT finally got posted onto Rankings HQ and it bumped me up to 6th place overall which will probably hold at that point through to finish me out in the top 10 for 2010.

Does anyone else care? Maybe not! Is it totally ego-stroking on my part? Yup! Is Rankings HQ a definitive indication of the best players? Nope. But am I proud to have finished out the year strong all the same? Sure am!

And, a little friendly rivalry here, I was trailing Dave_Fay, Hulk and Dash all year and this will JUST put me past them to finish out ahead of them! So eat my dust, fellas!

So if my little chest thumping exercise was lame, sorry, but I have been waiting months for that tournament to show up so I could taunt my friends a little before the year was over!

Good luck to everyone in the coming year, I look forward to some more friendly competition and fully expect to get some good natured teasing when some of you guys invariably pass me up at some point next year!

Would be interesting if they did. Actually would be nice if they did it like T3 in Europe where you have to beat ranked opponents.

But Rankinghq seems to be mainly UK and starting in US

With the vast difference in tournament setting and format from event to event, the 40k scene could honestly use a simple polling system - coaches and ap of our own, as it were.

@Yermon, thanks, but I am sure you will be back up the rankings soon. I was in the top 5 for a while early in the year but that was before people started getting a full 3 events in.

Thanks. And yeah, if we all wrote in we may be able to get them to change their ranking mechanics. They have a big presence so it makes since to do that as opposed to creating a new website. I wonder how open they would be to something like that?

I am hoping that with time we can move towards a semi standardized 40K tournament format for circuit or competitive tournaments. If we can do that we can get a real ranking system in that really means something. A standardized system also makes it easier for TOs to start as event as they have a plug and play system to use.

This one time, I ate a Reece Peanut Butter Cup. And I was about to eat the second one, and then Reece was standing there, and it felt kind of awkard, and I was like, "Do you want the other one?" And he said ok. And I was going to make a joke about him eating himself, but I didn't.

And since I probably couldn't get away with just that, I have to add...."And then his pansy Blood Angels ran off the table to go feast on the Peanut Butter Cups, and breakfast cereals and anchovies, and Orangatauns..."

Good Job Reece. While I had a decent win/loss record at the Smackdown my painting scores dragged me down so far it didn't help.
Add to it that 2 events I played in (#2 of 28 in one event) didn't even get reported.

Oh well. See ya at the Broadside Bash?

I get the good fun part. Think its a bit crazy to posts something like this because the people who do watch the rankings probably already know. Have to admit at first I cared a little about the site. But after getting two 1st place finishes in tournaments at 50 people each and than seeing the tournaments not get entered in the rankings I started seeing a flaw in the system. BTW not that it matters much but I am 20 and slowly sinking lol because I am not around to play.

Came over to europe and discovered the T3 rankings which I think makes a little more sense for those who like to keep count Probably has some issues but it has a country ranking and an international ranking. You still get ranked for winning but it helps to beat ranked opponents a lot. Took me a bit to get used to looking for tournaments way in advance because you have to register and turn in your army list ahead of time to play(side not is that you get to see what armies people are taking which is kind of interesting). In both France and Germany where there is a ton of tourneys the large ones fill quickly. But you also have to pay ahead of time so you know your income for the tournament.

Actually think you do more credit to the hobby by promoting tournaments and trying to start something up in the bay area which I think is even better than being ranked 6. Wish you were in the Bay area when I was there although who knows we may still run into each other because I still have a few places in the area.

So congrats on the 6th but really cudos on putting together gaming in the Bay.
