So, out of all the video games that came out in 2010, what would have to be your top ten things that you absolutely love? What was done right? What games were just epic winsauce? What features were amazing in other games? What honorable mentions would you give?

My top 10:

10: Gears of War 2's Hyper XP boost (25x!) right when it was most needed; when the Hype for Gears of War 3 started building. Most people who had wanted any small reason to come back to the game did, and it was glorious.

9: Halo Reach. Halo Reach, while making no sense in a "Why are Brutes here if Brutes weren't even in the first game" sort of way, was amazing solely for the ability to see your customized spartan in the Campaign. Also, the ability to gain unlocks by any form of playing was so convienient, more games should do it.

8: Costume Quest. It was a fun, quirky little game that I absolutely loved, and it did so many things right that full on retail games do not. Thing #1: Full health after a fight. Thing #2: You HAD to fight incredibly dirty in order to win. At first I was rather concerned that certain moves I was using (Egg on your Face, deals damage and stuns non boss enemies for a turn, and a move where you hurt the entire opposing side on hit) wasn't fun. Then I started running into higher leveled enemies, and I NEEDED those abilities order to survive. Thing #3: It was made by Tim Schafer, so as you can imagine it was pretty quirky.

8: Mass Effect 2. While I have not played Mass Effect 2, just the ability to carry forth saves from the first game is impressive enough to warrent a spot on this list, alone. Didn't care for the first game, however, but still.

7: Bioshock 2, Minerva's Den. While the whole idea of "Super thinking computer in Rapture" is just plain stupid, and the Ion Laser was basically just a reskin of the Chemical Thrower from the first game, the plot twist involved....... If Gaming was an Ocean, Bioshock would be on a boat, Bioshock 2 would be drowning, and Bioshock 2 Minerva's Den is holding on to that boat for dear life. My main complaint? Not enough Rocket Ammo to sasiate my lust for that Gravity Well Plasmid. If you have Bioshock 2, beleive me when I say that Minerva's Den is worth the points.

6: Castlevania Harmony of Despair. While full of bugs and non canon, this Castlevania allows you to team up with up to FIVE friends for some good, old fashioned 2D gameplay. I would pay to play an MMO that was like this online, but wasn't of the cutesy variety. Various imbalances *Cough Valmanway/Crissigrim Cough Cough* and certain characters not getting any sort of love *Cough Shanoa and Yoko Cough Cough* kind of hampers it, though. Anyone have a Recola?

5: Fallout New Vegas' Hardcore Mode. If this mode had been DLC for FO:3, I would have boughten it first day. This mode makes you not only watch your Rads, but also your Sleep Deprivation, Hunger, Thirst, made bullets weigh you down, medpacks heal gradually, and generally made it a far, far better survival game.

4: Splatterhouse. Nothing beats a classic being remade decently, except a Classic being remade right. Splatterhouse is a gore filled game that has a pretty decent story, but the storyline is simple enough where you don't have to think about it if you don't want to, but in depth enough where you get a little thought going on it if you want to. The Terror Mask was damned hilarious. Also, Splatterhouse did one thing right that no other game has done. It made QTEs fun. All the QTEs are based off of pressing one button and then moving the Joysticks to match Ricks arms. This led to it being easy to learn, easy to pull off so you could actually watch the bloody execution, and not so much of a "I-win" button, due to the random BUTTON press, not random buttonS you need to press.

3: Free Map Pack for Monday Night Combat. Think about what this might mean. A first time developer gets Micro$oft to let them put out a FREE two or three maps. Could this be the beginning of a less greedy M$? Yeah, I don't think so either, but hey, a guy can dream, right?

Well, that's about all I've got because, to tell the truth, most of my attentions are going toward next year, with GoW3, Tomb Raiders Reboot, DmC which I will try not to vomit on while I try it, more info on Borderworlds, the Splatterhouse Sequel that HAS to come (due to the damned ending, there has to be a sequel in the works), Resident Evil 6, F.E.A.R.3, and Dead Space 2.

(Oopsie, forgot to add the part that says: What is your Top 10, Dakka?)

What is your Top 10, Dakka?

Mass Effect 2 (PC)
Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC/360)
Starcraft 2 (PC)
Splinter Cell: Conviction (360)

1. Mass Effect 2
2. Fallout: New Vegas
3. Starcraft 2
4. Halo: Reach
5. Bioshock 2

That being said, there's a big gap between #1 and #2 and also between #2 and #3 in my opinion. Haven't found anything better than ME2 though.

10. 3d dot game hero. The game was a good idea executed horriblie.
9. Mag. Fun game but the wait in the lobbys was not worth the basic game play.
8. COD:MW2. When the game first came out I loved it but after people started doing lame crap it droped in my list quickly
7. Bayonetta. It was an interesting game but it relyed way to much on gimmicks.
6. battle field bad compeny 2. I like the collecting of dog tags it was massive fun.
5.Blood Bowl. It is a fun way to enjoy the game.
4.Heavy Rain. This game is very intense I had a hard time making some of the choices.
3.Mod Nation Racers. I love the track builder and the campaine mode is a lot of fun.
2. COD: Black OPS. I like the new additions to mulit but I find the story mode to be a little lame.
1. Fallout: New Vegas. This game is totally worth all the lags and crashes just to enjoy the rich world and story in this game.

Only Top 5 for me. Hasn´t got too much time for gaming this year.
1- Mass Effect 2: perhaps the best one this year for me. The best RPG I can imagine. Look and learn, Dark Millenium developers! Do not dare to create yet another WoW!
2- Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising. COME ON. How it comes no one here has mention it yet? Kyras turning heretic! Eliphas coming back! Abbadon preparing to fail again! And CHAOS RISING.
3- Bayonetta. Really original & incredible funny. LOL. And some levels are just impressive.
4- Dante´s Inferno: the last levels were meh, but I do like (real) Dante´s stuff and first levels are properly adapted.
5- Splatterhouse: relaxing, soothing, quite good for steaming out your righteous fury. Ah, good oldl times. Coming to think of it, it has lots of problems, but it is fun.

Edit: stopid fats writinh maks U look stopid

I'm kind of in the same boat. Due to my scheudle the last couple of years, I'm in a kind of "gamer's savings time" where a lot of the "new" games I play are a year or two old! Anyway, here is my list:

1. Mass Effect 2
2. Starcraft 2
3. Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy
4. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
5. Fallout 3 (I just finished it last week )
6. New Super Mario Brothers Wii

Hmm.

In no particular order..

1. Bayonetta - only got this a few weeks back and only a couple of lvls in, but its tremendous fun, totally over the top, but so funny with it.

2. Sims 3: Late Night - so much fun being able to experience the city side of the Sims world. HAs got me playing it much more the second half of the year, over the first. Plus Vampires equal win, just wish you could create your own, I'd have Vampire the Masquerade gangs roaming the streets if I could.

3. Halo: Reach - Just simply awesome, love every part of it, can play female Spartans, create levels, has a very satisfying Campaign mode. Rasied the bar for Xbox 360 shooters as far as I'm concerned.

4. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm - improved the weakest link of the game ten fold, which was leveling from 1-60. On toop of which added great new zones, of which I'd rate Uldum and Twilight Highlands the best Blizzard have ever made. Great new classes, a sneakily addictive (if slightly annoying) skill in Archaeology and improved gear and health levels that make you mutter wtf! when you reach 85 and realise as a dps you have nearly 100K health.
If I had a game of the year, this would probably be it.

5. Lego Harry Potter - took everything fun about the other Lego games, and added much more playablility with switching spells and everything folks enjoy about the series, well books 1 to 4 at least.

6. Civilisation V - with some big changes, the game however didn't fail to be your typical Civ fun, really hope we see an xbox version eventually, even if toned down like Revolution, just so I can chill out on my sofa and take over the world.

7. Kinect Sports - never has kicking out in front of your telly been so much fun. Really shows the potential of the Kinect, with some hopefully great new titles next year, this could be the hardware to watch in 2011.

8. Mass Effect 2 - only had a brief look as I'm still playing the first, but damn it looks like its going to be awesome. From how I've been enjoying the first, and reviews and comments I've read it deserves to be on my list even if its had virtually no play.

9. Super Street Fighter IV - even if it has one of the most annoying end bosses evar!! All the classic characters are in there and it is great fun to play.

10. Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver - yeah I still play with 'ma Pokemanz!' and this is the best version yet. Each edition gets brighter, more fun to play. Although part of me would still like to see a full console release with battles on par with the cartoon series, sound effect wise if nothing else. Still a great game though, and I personally have Soulsilver.

I've only got a top 3 at the moment. I'm still stuck on releases from 2009 (and earlier) that I either haven't been able to afford until now, or have offered enough gameplay to keep me hooked. If I think of more, I'll add it.

1.) The release of Red Dead Redemption. Easily one of the best games of all time, RDR completely raised the expectations I have for videogames in general, as every aspect of the game is so incredibly well done that there's not a single part of Red Dead Redemption that I'm not completely taken aback by, even nine months after the game's release. This is one for the ages.

2.) The Lord of the Rings Online becoming free-to-play. As this looked like just another WoW clone, I never bothered to subscribe to it. What I found when they decided to make the game F2P was an MMO that filled a void that I've had for years. LotRO, in my opinion, is easily the best themepark MMO on the market, for numerous different reasons. Hopefully, more MMO developers will start to follow Turbine's excellent example of a free-to-play business model.

3.) The release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. I'm now 300 hours into this game, and it just keeps on giving. A perfect example of a blend of excellent storytelling, gameplay mechanics, cooperative play, and competitive play. This is the pinnacle of the PSP's potential, and it offers my friends and I a co-op experience that's more compelling than any co-op-centric game I've played previously.

1. Team Fortress 2: This is the game I waste all my time on. All of the classes are pretty easy to play to a moderate standard, and mods galore make this very much worth 20 bucks.
2. Vindictus: My biggest timesink aside from TF2, essentially an MMO using 3rd-person God of War -esque combat.
3. Fallout: New Vegas: Nothing like making a character that looks like the demoman and throwing dynamite at people while screaming "KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"
4. ME2: Fun Fun Fun. Very good storyline, game mechanics, everything.
5. Aliens vs Predator (2010): Very entertaining storyline + gameplay and well worth the $7 I spent on it. All 3 campaigns clock in at a little under 2-3 hrs in total, so definitely not worth full price.

Honorable mentions go to Black Ops (sounds fun, but when you realize that it borderlines unplayable running on anything below a 260GTX you start to reconsider) and Cataclysm (I really, really, really, really want to like this, but levelling is my least favorite part of WoW.)

Kabal of the Void Dominator - now with more purple!

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

I'm not sure I can go to ten, simply because I haven't been gaming as much as I used to. At any rate, here's my favorites of the year (in no particular order):

AC: Brotherhood: I love the Assassin's Creed series. So much. I feel like they finally fixed the boredom that set in somewhat early due to the game being so repetitive (looking at you AC1). That, and Roma isa huge-a...and gorgeous.

Mass Effect 2: I won't go into repeating what's already been said about this.

Halo: Reach: Loved the campaign, and still replay it when I'm bored. You feel like a genetically modified super soldier, but not the walking tank that you were as Master Chief. The whole "operating as a squad" element was really very nice.

Medal of Honor: Yup, I said it. Wasn't a big fan of the multiplayer, but I enjoyed the campaign quite a bit.

DoWII: Chaos Rising: Awesome only for the fact that I can go traitor or total Emprah fan-boy if I want. I love choices.

And last, but not least, Fallout: New Vegas: Again, I love choices, and this game is chock full of them. Sure it crashes more than the little old lady who can barely see over the wheel, much less see at all, but I enjoy the hell out of it. Hardcore mode or regular, just plain fun. And comical...oh so comical.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

1-60 hasn't been annoying or difficult since 3.0 launched over 2 years ago. The worst part of the leveling experience would be Northrend followed by Outland. If anything, Cataclysm made leveling worse, since you have complete quest chains to unlock new zones.

Top 5 for me:

5: F1 2010 - Bought because of the F1 license. It's a solid racer, but it needs some polish.
4: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - The demo was awesome, so I bought it. The mode on the demo is still awesome, but half the game is really frustrating time trials. I just want to smash cars, EA!
3: GT5 - A good racer, but not really worth the wait. Don't be fooled by the 1000 car spiel. Half of those are obscure japanese clunkers.
2: MAG - Great shooter with a real tactical element. It's awesome when you're playing with a good team, ok with random kids. The wait times were only an issue if you were SVER. I was Valor and didn't wait more than a minute.
1: Sam and Max: The Devil's Playhouse - I normally hate adventure games. Really hate them. However, this was free for PS+ subscribers and they've stolen all my evenings for the past week.

Those were the top 5 games I've been playing that were released this year. Otherwise Need for Speed: Shift and Wipeout HD would have stolen the show. (And burnout: Paradise)

Nah, maybe if you had one or two alts. When you've got several, and still play though with more, the long grind of getting up to Outlands was really dull before the change, even after they dropping the mounts down twenty lvls for normal/epic.

Once you get to Outlands, Hellfire, Zangermarsh and a little bit of Nagrand and you are off to Northrend. Northrend to me is still quite fun, with the XP bonuses guilds give now, and the lower xp cap through Northrend, its a pretty qick but fun journey as well.

In my opinion, they had to change 1-60, it was still referencing stuff that happened four years ago in places. I also see the zone quest chains as a positive, its nice to follow a story, plus no more jumping to Kalimdor for one chain, coming back to Eastern Kingdoms for another. The criss crossing you had to do between lvls 35 and 50 where a joke. Seriously, I spent more time on the boats than lvling.

Name one actual flaw in the game other than the mining planets. The hate for the game falls into the group, hardcore rpgers who think that an rpg is more about loot than plot and Halo fanboys who can't handle more than 3 sentences of plot.
