Does anyone else know about this?
I needed a couple of robed marines for an honnor guard squad I'm doing. So i thought i would give the DA chapter upgrade Set a try, and what a deal!
You end up with 10 robed marines for 20$.
The website is absolutely no help

What it does not tell you is that you get two of these!
Now for my real question, other than the extra weapons why would you purchase the Vet box?

DA Vet box (25$) pros: sprue with plasma/melta special weapons. + bases. Con: 5 bucks a marine
DA Chapter upgrade (20$) Pros: 10 Robed marines Con: no special or heavy weapons and no bases

No if it wasn't for the fact that I already have two space marine armies. I think i would be tempted to build a new all robed one!
Hmmm... all robed Pre-heresy thousand sons army....(No No....the wife would kill me!)

Welcome to two + years ago.
You basically get 2 DA vet boxes minus the bases and standard marine upgrade sprew and labels for $2 more than on box.

I have like 6 still in the gw baggies and have already built at least 4 baggies so far.

Hmm I have loads of spare bits from my Black Templars army (when I build a regular BT marine I all I use from the regular tactical sprue is the legs, back half of torso and backpack, everything else comes from the BT box). I'd just need to get my hands on some bases and a few of these boxes and I'd have a whole army just from my bits box. It'd probably be very small (say 500-750pts) but I can build on that.

I didn't know, and the website does not give you any hints that your getting 10 guys. I just figured that there were other people who didn't realize how much of a deal this was! (no one locally plays DA, so we hadn't seen the set)

20$ for 10 robed marines > 37.25$ for 10 Tactical Marines.

Oh well i guess I'm just putting it out there for general knowledge.

Just making sure I understand ... so you get 2 of the sprues posted on the website? I only see 3 legs on the site, so isnt that only enough for 6? (plus 2 termie legs) and also 6 bolter arm sets?

Yes you get two sprues.
the website does not show you that there are an extra two bodies, or the extra bolters and backpacks.

I guess there just showing the unique bits on the sprue (ie. no repeats).

I forget exactly what you get per sprue, but in each bag I got:

10 Robed marines
2 Terminator Assault cannons
2 Terminator Legs
2 Terminator power swords
2 Terminator storm bolter
2 Storm Shields
10 bolter arms and bolters
2 power swords
2 power maces
2 power fists
lots of shoulder pads
12 backpacks
and lots of other small bits.

The DA vet box comes with the normal tactical squad upgrade stuff. This can be very valuable as the missile launcher and melta alone sell for quite a bit on eBay.

This guy speaks the truth. I used the kit for converting CSM and was very pleased to find all the extra goodies.

Not to derail this thread too much but is the BT upgrade kit also this good of a deal?

Same here. Im looking at doing some robed CSM, was thinking of using the DA vets as the base with parts from the CSM tac squad...ths upgrade pack might be the better way to go.

On top of that I can pick up some bases from ebay, use the loyalist backpacks (on the reg CSM) and some parts from my bits box and have 10 robed CSM for me and 10 reg CSM for my wife.

The reason no one talks about that is because no one wants to make armies of robes.

Why I ask,
this doesn't make much sense,
that a man of my stature
should have to wear a dress?

Real Marines do not wear man dresses.

Hell, if I was rich Id hardly ever wear anything but my robe. Its warm and comfortable.

Well, around the house anyways...or if I was going somewhere that didnt require me leaving the car.

The Black Templar Chapter Upgrade box is not bad, but IMHO its not as good as the DA one.
You don't get complete marines, you would still need to have the legs/back of torso/backpacks for each marine.
Its not bad but you pay for the lack of (whole) marines with the Rhino/tank upgrade sprue.
Not to mention that its 30$ vs the 20$ DA one!

So the box comes with a missile launcher? A space marine missile launcher? HOT DANG! I NEEDED ONE MORE! And I already wanted to buy this + a DC box for some sweet sweet conversion goodness.

I'm quite sure the upgrade pack doesn't have a ML, don't know about the veteran kit though.

Just like Asimo77 said.

The 25$ veteran kit comes with a ML, and the usual tactical squad upgrades. (but you only get 5 robed marines and half of the parts listed above.)

The 20$ chapter upgrade pack comes with all the stuff listed above. (10 robed marines....etc)

The upgrade pack only has the DA exclusive parts. The Veterans come with the Extra stuff like special weapons and junk.

The DA upgrade kit is a good buy. seriously. Robed marines are great for making pious looking chaps. plus who doesn't love pretty sculpted shoulderpads?
Now what i would REALLY like to see is an imperial set, no chapter specifics. eagles aplenty and whatnot!

Oh yes! The Ravenwing Battleforce is an insanely good deal as well:
6 bikes, an attack bike, a landspeeder, and three Ravenwing bits sprues for over 30% off the price if bought individually.

It is a wonder why more people don't play Dark Angels!

because the rulez SUCK. Seriously there will be even more bandwagon jumpers than SW if DA got updated, especially if they keep the current battleforce and Upgrade Kit at those prices.

Im gonna paint the marines I get from Assault On Black Reach as Dark Angels and was thinking of buying the upgrade pack.

I was wondering, though, if you give a dark angel the robes, are they then veterans or can any marine in a Dark Angel army wear the robes - i.e. it can just be for aesthetics?

just for aesthetics. You can build them up as Tactical Squads, Veterans, Devastators, Assault Marines (with appropriate parts) or even company masters if you like.
