As per the GW web page, the US Thrnoe of Skulls tournament will be held on June 18th and 19th. (Still no word yet on the venue in Vegas it will be held at.)
However, GW has also announed that it will continue the Throne of Skulls tournament circuit in 2012 and that it will be held in Memphis during the month of October. As with this past year, players that win "Golden Tickets" from the independent tournament circuit will be invited to play. However, you must place 1st in order to win a "Golden Ticket" and any leftover tickets will be sold from Games Workshop starting in January, 2012.

Thoughts?
My gut tells me that the "Golden Ticket" thing will die off in the next couple of years. Since it costs money to support these tournaments, and GW never had a problem with attendance in the previous years, I don't see why they would continue to give out free passes... Basically, I can see GW doing 1 Grand Tournament and 1 Games Day in the US each year that rotate around the country. With that in mind, I'd like to think that means that we will see Games Day in Seattle, Las Vegas, or Los Angeles in 2012.

I think it's going to die simply because other events are putting on a better show honestly. So many groups have stepped up (and some have stepped back...) that I think all GW needs to do is continue to provide some decent prize support to the budding tournament system and watch it go. Eventually they might not even have to do that but I think they will as it's not an expensive way to support the hobby in a different way then their stores are set-up to do.
Personally unless I happen to be in Cali in June I probably won't be going even though I have a ticket simply cause it's not worth the cost of travel compared to events like Nova, WargamesCon, Adepticon, or smaller venues like DaBoyz, Slaughter in Space, BFS, SVDM. Not to mention the format just doesn't appeal to me in the least.

Frankly, the only real attraction is that it's in Vegas. I wouldn't travel to Memphis for a GW-run event in any format. I'd rather go visit Mike @ Showcase for one of his, where he'd feed me varmint stew or something.

Varmint stew? That's brilliant.
I think that from now on anything I make that's in a crockpot just gets that name. And appropriately, the next big batch will be getting cooked up for DakkaCon.)

I asked for that when Yakface first bought Dakka, but he declined to have that added.

IF it was an event that had a competitive scoring set up, would you attend?

I would, but it isn't, so I am also not attending. Which is sad really, because I purposely set out to win a golden ticket to go to this thing, then scrapped my plans as soon as I saw it was the Throne of Skulls format.

+1.
I hit California, Florida, D.C., Pennsylvania and much more this past year. Traveling hasn't been the issue, but the format is an automatic no-brainer disqualifier to be considered worthy of attendance. Who wants to buy my golden ticket?

If you find someone, can we make it a two for one deal that they can give to a friend?
