So, if you will see here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/333814.page

I have started wanting to create a "Guild Wars Dakka Guild". Having all our discussions in one thread would be confusing, and I don't think anyone wants us (not even us) to make multiple threads for Character Builds, In Guild Events, Announcements, and the like. However, since it is "Dakka's" guild, having it Off-Dakka would be kind of..... Hard to find?

And while pondering what to do, because I can't make websites, I remembered what the Ubisoft/Epic Games Forums used to do. You had Private Messeges, and then You had Private Discussions. Private Messeges worked exactly like they do on Dakka, but Private Discussions were:

A) Started by one person

B) Who then invited more people

C) Everyone in the discussion could post and see what other people had posted and discuss without bothering anyone outside the discussion and without having outside interferance with the discussion (Mods being the exception, of course)

This would allow for some debates between people in a way that can not be done as of now. People known for well thought out posts/ willing to discuss things (Mods, you know who I am talking about, and No, I do not consider myself one of them) would be able to talk about things without other people budding in with a Troll/off topic/irrelevant post. It would also allow for us Doomfarts to be Silent (on the forums) but Deadly (In our scheming).

I think this would be a good addition to Dakka to have, just running it past you guys.

Summery: we could start threads in which only certain people can see/post in, allowing us to have a civilized(?!?) and to-the-point discussion and not clog up the main forums with certain topics most people would not be bothered to look at.

I like this idea, although there would probably be some difficulty in moderating it effectively. It would certainly be useful though, although you could always use this: http://www.quicktopic.com/

It is a tough one as it is not a bad idea as such, but we already get quite a lot of mod overhead from people being mean to each other over private messages. Private discussions would add nothing to the public face of the site which the vast majority of people see, and would only really be useful to a few hundred major members. Frankly I'd sooner keep all discussion public so everyone can enjoy it, and the types of topics that shouldnt be public probably should not get discussed here anyway.

Fair enough, I can understand and respect that reasoning.
