I want to make an Honor Guard for my Blood Angels and was wondering how people make them. I've heard of people using the DA robed bodies and I have also heard people just using Veteran Models. Just wondering what you guys think is the best way to go about making an Honour Guard!

I would think converting either Death Company or Sanguinary Guard models would be the best way. Those have tons of BA iconography and are very ornate.

The really cheap way is standard models with a different colour somewhere on them.
But if you can afford it, some distinctive models would be better. Sure, vets are the easy option, if you can't or don't want to do any conversion.
Personally I'd go for the plastic DA robed bodies, but be warned there aren't that many variants (3 legs and 3 torsoes, from memory), and you do have to cover up the DA icons (not especially difficult).

Hmm I hadn't considered the Sang Guard, all I would have to do is leave the wings off of them and buy a melta and JP blister from GW......
Also I do not use the Guard in any of my lists so there wouldn't really be any aesthetic conflicts there

If you run Death Company, you should be able to get some extra backpacks. They come with Jump Packs and normal SM backpacks.

Nah I don't run DC, and I'm guessing the Guard only come with wings and not regular Jump Packs. Melta's and Jump Packs only cost $8 each though so it isn't a huge blow to the wallet to get those.

I'm using forgeworld MkIV armor and sanguinary guard legs with Chapterhouse's pre-heresy jump packs. Not sure exactly what I'll use them for yet, probably honor guard or vanguards.

Sanguinary Guard's a good one. If you're merely looking for cheap though, go with the DA Chapter Upgrade sprue to get something like 10 robed bodies, and the upgrade gun blisters to arm them. You'll get 2 robed honor guard squads out of it for pretty darn cheap. That chapter upgrade set is a steal.

Hi
THe Death Company box comes with toms of BA themed stuff to convert/kitbash your Honour Guard. It depends on what role you ant them to fulfill. I used the DC box to make my Vanguard Veteran squad - which i could easily use as assaulty Honour Guard ify i added a sanguinary noviate.
The guy above was right about the DA sprue - ive used the robed bodies to make sanguinary priests - they look cool - ill post a pic if i get the chance.
Heres mine - you could paint up yours red.
The Sanguinary Guard box is also great and ive kitbashed them with the DC box to make all my Sergeanst and a couple of characters.
Rember you can usually get all sorts of bits from ebay - sometimes much cheaper than GW.
Hope this helps

I was thinking of this thread while I was away.. specifically the Dark Angels upgrade sprue and the robed bodies when it occurred to me.
How stupid would it be to wear long flowing robes with a pair of jet exhausts hanging on your back? They're cool, but I won't use these bodies on anyone with a jump pack.

@Hound: Looks great man! However I think I'm going to go with Sanguinary Guard solely because I can give their cool winged JP to my priests and stick normal JP on them

...You dont have to convert honour guard.
Make models armed with what you want them to have then paint the helmets gold and people will know what they are.

ive also pondered on this idea but i think i may have the solution although the previous conversions were great ideas
the marges calgar honor guards seem more then viable for such a project. the only flaw is the amount of filing and possible gs that can be done but a well idea that took little to no thought
just add jps from sanquinary guard kit
the other problem would be the novicate totally forgot about him up until now

Well the plan I have decided upon is this, I am going to use the sanguinary guard for the HG models with the exception of the novitiate, who will be represented by a Sanguinary priest model.
I am going to put regular jump packs on the four honour guard and wings on the novitiate as well as my two other priests. If by some miracle I get them assembled and painted in the near future I will post some pics.
