Some LGS will have them to, at least in the US. I just re-ordered a bunch for my store after selling out again.

A question I have which problay doesne't deserve another thread: Is the IA- Model Masterclass book worth the purchase? From what I can see, it contains much more useful information than any of the Citadel books.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

My store currently has it in (Durham), and when I was in Bristol we had it there too. And yes, it's worth the purchase. If you want to do weathering and stuff, it's a wonderful book.

Its a fantastic book, real mind blowinfg stuff for me. It really illuminated me on the level of detail that the FW modellers go into to create the finished product while also showing stage by stage instruction.

Its also cheap compared to other FW books, but that doesn't mean allot as it is still something like £28 for it. Having said that I will quote myself and say that "it is the best £28 I have ever spent.

ok dw guys anymore. i have got it! (6 months after i asked my dad to buy it). its fantastic!

the great thing is that it shows many different painting techniques.

but the bad thing is the book really only talks about armour and a bit of terrain. there is one source for infantry, but besides from that, no tut for a good unit painting technique. but still, it is fabulous!

To be fair what did you expect GW painting guides are primarily focused on infantry and FW makes most of their money from selling tanks so it stands to reason they will make up the majority of their book. Glad you got it.

I was in a bit of a quandry whether to buy this book or not - I've had a look through a copy of Citadel's How To Paint Tanks and did not believe that to be worth the £17-£18 they want for it. I plumped up the £26 for IAMM anyway and was very pleasantly surprised when I received it - very good quality step by step instruction with informative photos for every step. Definitely worth the money.

A couple of things to note:

- many of the techniques make use of an airbrush - they don't mention if the same effects can be achieved with a normal paintbrush (although undoubtedly there is some way of doing it), nor if so how to;
- it gives material mixes for achieving different effects (e.g. oil paints and thinners) but doesn't indicate what ratios to use - experimentation is the order of the day, and why this book isn't good for (or rather, isn't aimed at) the newbie.

As mentioned it does focus on tanks, but some of the techniques can be transferred to infantry models.

yeah, most of the money i guess goes into the high quality paper, if it was codex-type paper the book would probably sell for more like £15

OT, you know you don't need to highlight when airbrushing a tank, then what do you do when its a black landspeeder? because you have basically undercoated it, and if you do paintbrush highlights on it, it might stand out amongst other vehicles. or, do you just leave all the surface plain black, and just put weathering effects on?

You don't use an airbrush when painting black basically.

i understand, but because ' i think ' airbrushing gives the model some highlight naturally, do you highlight the black with some grey yourself with a paintbrush, or do you leave the paintwork and only add effect with weathering washes?
