Are they good for ONE heavy slot use?

In short, no. They are more expensive than they should be. But, the do offer one thing that's worked well for me:

2 dark reapers, with exarch isn't horrible. Tempest launcher with crack shot.
You get 2 blasts, indirect and S4 AP3, ignoring cover and re-rolling to wound.
147 points, and you just need to keep them out of sight (which isn't hard, they are very small).

I'd always look at Dark Reapers as the 3rd heavy support slot at best.

And if you get a EML for the exarch you get an interresting weapon when combined with his crack or fast shot. A missile launcher that ignores cover and reroll to wound is nice. Still dont know if its competetive enough. And if so, only against some armies.

Yes they are worth it... in a footslogging army.
Although expensive, they are amazingly good at taking down pesky MEQs. Place them on the top floor of a ruin or in cover somewhere, and fire away.
Just watch out for DS and outflanks.

In other lists, maybe not your first choice, but still good if you don't know where else to spend points

Hm, just some thoughts: compare that small 3 men squad with 2 warwalkers armed with scatterlasers.
Warwalkers get 16 S6 shots at 120p, ability to outflank or give cover to other units behind them.
The reapers get better armourpiercing and the ability to hide in cover, but far less hits at lesser S value. They are better though att hitting stuff (better BS), and the exarch can get lots of hits/wounds on lesser enemies.

I really like the warwalkers, I admit. They are cheap mobile and hard hitting, if not enduring. But Reapers do have their uses (and look far cooler than warwalkers

What you have said is true enough, but as I mentioned above, Reapers are only really good in footslogging armies in which the enemy will already have loads of little soldiers running at him.
I would rather consider War Walkers as mech, but then again they are footsloggers?

Admittedly, War Walkers with scatter lasers will perform better on the whole against infantry, but I wouldn't take Dark Reapers as an anti-infantry unit, but more specifically for an anit MEQ unit. Can't go wrong with AP3

That's exactly what they are made for. Taking down marines. That's why I like to take them.
