"Feel the rush of the wind against your skin and hear her keening cry in your ears. Listen to her call well, for are we not the Wild Riders, the children of the storm?"- Nuadhu 'Fireheart'

Hello! This is my first battle rep ever! I hope you enjoy.
This battle report is at 1500 pts. My Saim-Hann Eldar vs. hybrid Space Wolves.

The lists look something like this:

Saim-hann:

2x- Farseer w/ Fortune, Mind War (for FTW lolz), Runes, Stones and Jetbike.
2x- Guardian Jetbike Squad- 9 jetbikes w/3 Shuriken Cannons
2x- Vyper Squadrons- 2 Vypers w/ Star Engines, Cannons, Scatter Laser and EML
2x- Fire Prism w/ Star Engines, Holo-Fields

Not a lot of models, but everything is fast and fluffy. I start the game with a Farseer attached to each Jetbike Squad.

This is roughly what my opponent was running. Nothing spammy about their list. Definitely not designed to house a tourny, but solid.

2x Drop Pod w/ 10 Grey Hunters w/ Melta and Plasma and Mark of the Wolfen
Battle Leader w/ Bike attached to:
Swift Claws- 3 Swift Claws, 1 Attack Bike
Scout Squad- 5 Scouts w/ 1 Missile Launcher and Mark of the Wolfen in there
Blood Claws- 5 Blood Claws w/ Power Fist. One Lucas the Trickster in a Razorback
2x Land Speeder Squadron- 2 Land Speeders w/ Missiles

We roll for Mission, Deployment and Turn.

It's 5 objectives, Spearhead and my opponent wins the roll off, passing first turn to me, so I won't shoot up his drop pods right off the bat.

I place one objective inside of some ruins next to my deployment zone so a Drop Pod won't drop right on top of it and place the other two 12" away, toward the center of the board in open terrain. No cover saves for these Space Wolves! My opponent puts his counters on the other side of the board, perhaps hoping to stretch out my already small force.

Top of Turn 1-
Normally, I'd reserve everything, but I wasn't feeling too lucky and didn't want to risk my guys coming in piecemeal, so I decided to risk a drop pod crashing down on me, destroying my little paper jetbikes. So I deploy everything. My opponent deploys his Razorback w/ Blood Claws and Infiltrates his Wolf Scouts into some cover and reserves the rest. I can already tell that the Scouts are going to give me some trouble.

I move out, camping one of my Jetbike Squads on the objective in ruins, while everything else splits, down the sides of the table. Lots of Strength 6 shots were put out by my Vypers, Jetbike Cannons and even a few templates from my Prisms all onto those Scouts. They went to ground, but still managed to lose 4 of 5 in shooting. The fail Morale and fall back, 1" from the table edge! So close, yet so far!

Bottom of Turn 1-
The Scout regroups with himself. See, he's already becoming a pain... First drop pod comes crashing in right near my objective in ruins and one Speeder Squadron comes on the board. Grey Hunters spill out of their drop pod and open up on my jetbikes. Stormbolter from the Drop Pod was laughed at by my Jetbike's 3+ Fortuned armor save. The laughing ended when I took a melta shot and decided to allocate it to my Farseer's Fortuned Invul...which failed! Epic fail. I made a terrible call and the Eldar Gods laughed in my face. With the Farseer melted into a puddle, my Jetbikes took rapid fire shots, lost 3 bikes, failed Morale and flew off of the board, turning their backs on their brethren and abandoning their objective! -_- EPIC FAIL.

Top of 2-
I knew that I screwed myself last round, so now I have to play smart. My remaining Jetbike squad moves over to the Grey Hunters, along with my two Vyper Squads. I blast away with everything I have, killing 6 of the 10. My Prisms target the Razorback, doing nothing. The Grey Hunters fail Morale and fall back a few inches. I then assault the Grey Hunters with the Bikes. I win combat and begin to wear down their numbers.

Bottom of 2-
Swift Claws come on. Reserve rolls fail for the GH Drop Pod and second Speeder Squadron. Whew. Saves me another round from getting shot up. The Swift Claws turboboost toward the center of the table, hoping to close in on my Jetbikes. Razorback dumps it's load of Blood Claws on an objective and then moves forward toward my Jetbikes. Probably wanting to tank create a barrier between my guys and the objective. Speeder shots do nothing to my Vypers who make their cover saves. Combat resolved, doing nothing.

Top of 3-
My Vypers move around a little, giving cover to my Prisms, which I think may be shot up by the Speeders on my opponents next turn. My Vypers put a lot of shots into the Swift Claws and my Prisms focus fire on the Razorback. The Swift Claw's Battle Leader has a Saga which adds +1 to their cover save. That on top of their Turboboost makes them 2+ cover save monsters on wheels. So my shooting does nothing except immobilize the Razorbook. Big whoop. Combat is resolved and I kill 1 more Grey Hunter.

Bottom of 3-
DROP POD! AHH! Reserve results: Drop Pod right next to my full Vyper Squad and two Fire Prisms. Uh oh! Melta is in range to do some real damage. Yipe! Eldar magic, don't fail me now! Swift Claws move up again and plug a Vyper group. Even with cover saves, one Vyper is destroyed and another has his Shuriken Cannon blown off, while the Speeders try to blow up my Fire Prisms, knowing what kind of hell I can bring when I'm exploiting all things Codex: Eldar! But with cover saves created by my Vypers and the Drop Pod, nothing happens. The Grey Hunters spill out of their Drop Pod, hoping to melt a big hole in one of my Fire Prisms. Hit and Pen withe melta. Ouch! But wait!...Holo-Fieds. Taking the lower of the two dice rolls, my Elf Tank is only Stunned. Holo-Fields just earned their points back. Combat is resolved and I finish off the Grey Hunters. Note: I love finishing combat in the other player's assault phase. It allows me a free D6" move and then I'm allowed to do whatever I please next turn. I consolidate toward the objective being held by the Blood Claws. I'm...coming...for...you....

Top of 4-
My Jetbikes boost toward the side/middle of the table to create distance from the Swift Claws and to bring me in range to hopefully shoot up the Blood Claws, have them fail Morale, fall off the objective and then move my 6" in the assault phase to claim that precious piece of land. Let's see how it pans out though.
Fire Prisms are in a tight spot. The Vypers are about 6" away from the Grey Hunters and a scattered blast template could do some damage. But desperate times call for desperate measures. So I focus a large blast centered on the GHs. That's S6 AP3! I roll *klack klack* direct hit! 7 of the 10 are blown into space dust. The others fail Morale and run.

Bottom of 4-
The last Speeder Squadron is on...by now it's too late and they won't be a threat till turn 5, given all of the cover lent to my units in LOS. The Swift Claws blaze around the middle of the table, trying to get to my Jetbikes. I'm making them turboboost a LOT, so they're getting very little shooting and zero assaults off...so far, so I'm happy about that. The Grey Hunters regroup and try again to Melta my Prism, which misses. Whew.. the Bolters on the Drop Pods target my already weapon destroyed Vyper and take it out. What a trooper he was! Not a great round for the Wolves. A lot of movement, not a lot of dakka.

Top of 5-
As planned, my Jetbikes move up to the objective held by the Blood Claws. My Vypers move and star engine to block off the only lane open for the Swift Claws to get through to contest the objective I'm planning to overtake with my Jetbikes. Lots of shots were made and lots of saves were failed, killing 4 of the 5 Claws. Last man standing-Lucas the Trickster....I hate him. But wait...my Farseer hasn't fired and I took Mind War!! Psychic test-Passed. Ld10 vs Ld7= Lucas' brain melting into a stew, utterly destroyed by the powers of the warp! Mind War-FTW lolz!!!! My Prisms star engine in front of the objective that the Grey Hunters are next to, so they'll have no way of getting to it until turn 6. 90% of this plan relies on the game ending turn 5, so I have my fingers crossed. My Jetbikes then move their 6" in the assault phase to claim the objective.

Bottom of 5-
Speeders try to move onto difficult terrain to get the shots they need. They took the gamble and lost, losing half of the Speeders to dangerous terrain tests! The Swift Claws move around and shoot the Vypers blocking their path to the Jetbikes. Their shots are negated by cover saves and they epic fail in the assault. The Grey Hunters try to blast at the Prisms, but cover saves are making life for the Wolves hell. After their round of shooting and assaults, they did a whole lot of nothing.

Now it's time to roll to see if the game continues and it's....a 2!!!

Game ends Turn 5. Eldar-1 objective held. Space Wolves- 0 objectives held.

Hope you enjoyed and sorry about the lack of pics.

Liked it. Even if I play Wolves. Just so you know til next time, the Saga which he used is illegal. You arn't allowed to combind that Saga with TDA or bike. What kind of stealthy hunter would that be?

Thank you! I love Space Wolf fluff and minis. What page could I find that the Saga would be disallowed for TDA and Bike? It would be nice to have a page number for next time

Page 85. In the army list by the WGBL and Wolf Priest. It's quite a hard thing to miss IMHO.

Congratulations on the win. It's always satisfying to pop someone's brain with Mind War.

I wouldn't give Star Engines to the Vypers and Fire Prisms for three reasons:
1) Eldar vehicles are already super fast. That 12" boost can only come in handy if you're playing on a very large table.
2) Fire Prisms don't need to do much moving. Remember, the prism has a 60" range; the tank can just sit in a corner and blast away all game long.
3) Vypers are very fragile. It's really risky to add anything other than the heavy weapons because those 15 points could be wasted if the Vyper is gunned down by, for instance, rapid-firing marines.

Kudos on the Holo-Fields, though. You can never go wrong there.

Next time you write a battle report, try to take some pictures of the game and add them to the post. Otherwise, fine work.

Thanks! I usually don't take Mind War, but since I was just playing a friendly game, I decided I could afford the point for the potential lolz alone. haha.

Two reasons I take Star Engines:

1)My Vypers usually ride along with my Jetbikes and they need those SE to keep up if they're boosting. I need the options open, everything needs to be flexible in my already outgunned and outnumbered list.
2)I always put SE on my Prisms, not so that they can get into a good shooting position, but so they can launch across the battle field and contest during objective games. Having two troop choices and some flimsy Vypers isn't enough to control the board. So I need to get the Star Engines blasting my Prisms in, tank shocking my unsuspecting foes.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ah, you make a fine point about putting the Star Engines on Fire Prisms. Last turn objective contesting is a popular trick up the Eldar's sleeve.

Why would the vypers need the engines to keep up with the jetbikes? Isn't the top speed of both jetbikes and Vypers 24"?

I believe the Vyper and Prism have the same capability as far as movement. Unless I've missed something. hrm. *ponders*

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You know what, I've been crippling myself from the get-go! I've been playing my Fast Skimmers like this- Move 12" max. Then with Star Engines I can move 24" total. I'm such a tard, who just didn't read the rules closely. I could have been getting 36" out of both my Prisms and Vypers, though I never needed the Star Engines on my Vypers. So now I'll be freeing up some points AND getting more flexibility from my list. Thanks for making me take another look at the rules!
