I was just wondering (totally out of curiosity) what it takes to get a perma-ban here on quiet old dakka. I ask because at least two friends of mine may have received them, and I believe they were integral parts of the dakka 40k community.

Only time ive ever been banned was for swearing on a Christian Call Of Duty WAW server.... Christian...call of duty...yeah.

Anyone know? Maybe the DCM's/MOD's can tell us?

Being an a-hole practically forever.
Running a sockpuppet to evade the effect of a suspension or to do other bad things.
Being a blatant racist or other kind of nutter.
Running scams in the Swap Shop.
Racking up lots and lots of sanctions is liable to end in permanent suspension.

All that said, I think the number of permanently suspended members is barely in to double figures.

Sometimes users simply remove themselves from the forum of their own accord. They just stop visiting, for their own reasons.

Sainthazard and Gwar! I believe received them, along with mellissia. The 2 latest of which are on the first page of the members list of dakka because of their insane amount of posts...

Wait, when was Melisia perma-banned? You might be jumping the gun there.

Besides, if these people are banned I think this thread may turn all too quickly into a mudslinging competition behind their back, which they have no means to answer.

So you don't see someone on the forum for a while, and your first thought is "permaban"? Maybe they took a holiday, or moved house, or got an un-permanent ban.

Either way, I don't think speculation will be a very productive activity.

It is part of the moderation guide not to reveal any sanctions that may have been applied to individual users.

It is part of the rules not to comment on individuals who are not in a position to reply on their own behalf.
