Title says it all really, is it a viable tactic (not on a massively competitive level) to use a Big Mek to take a Deff Dread as a Troops choice? I wouldn't be planning on using him for objective captures, only because this allows me to get more armoured walkers into the force, along with Killa Kan units as Heavy Support.

What does Dakka think?

Thanks,

???

I dont see how it could be bad, you should already have a mek with that many kans so you already have the ability to, and its not like making a dread a troops choice makes it a bad choice, I just dont see why would need to ask, it is not really a "tactic", just go do it!

Also they cant hold objectives if the are troops anyways, making them troops just lets you fit more than the 3 heavy support.

Now go experiment.

For a kan wall, yes, I think so.

Make sure you have 3-4 units of boys (20+P.Klaw Nob) and you'll be laughing.

Take two min sized units of nobs and in battle wagons with deffrollers for extra fun. Place a big mek on each and you cover lots of your army and hide the kustom force fields with AV14.

Target saturation will be key.

Take two KFF Big Meks and two Deffs. All DCCWs unless you want to add a flamer just in case.

9 Kans with Rokkits, though I would favor 6 Rokkit Kans and 3 Grotzooka Kans.

That gives you a solid core to build around.

1 Gretchin min squad is optional, as it eats just 40 points to hold a backfield objective.

Solo suicide squads of deffkopta TL Rokkits with Buzzsaws are also go for reducing an enemy's mobility.

Snikrot led Kommandos to hem in the enemy and shrink the field. Give them a couple of flamers.

Min squads of Lootas to help pop tanks.

Shoota Boyz...what you think would be a good number to take (3x20 (with Gretchin), 4x20, 3x30 (with Gretchin if you have the spare points, but each unit footprint is massive).

I would strongly advise against mixing the army speed with other units that go faster, so no Trukks or Stormboyz.

Battlewagons that match army speed could be viable, but I think that your elite slot can be better used by adding in the Lootas and maybe Snikrot led Kommandos.

Last edition when troops didn't matter It was the only troop selection I made (other than the grots screening the SAG gun). I'm not a fan of ork boyz, and going with the dreds let me afford a bunch of elite, FA, and HS choices I couldn't afford If I had tried to make boyz work.
