Just wondering, as I got two (I have no knowledge at all of the new sets and this probably sounds quite stupid), and I thought that is seems rather stupid that you get a lot less, and for the privelidge of getting less, they charge another £5, so am I missing a sprue, or is that whats comes in the set?

Damn! i waa hoping that accessory sprue came with it, seems very stupid to charge more a product that actually contains less than the old one. You cant make any pintle mounted weapons, hunterkiller missles ect. without forking out another £8 a tank for an extra sprue that used to be included /rant

Yeah, highly frustrating, especially with how barebones the tank looks without the accessories, especially track guards. I was not amused, but had extras. None of the IG tank kits come with the accessory sprue anymore I believe.

He means it does not come with smoke launchers and a search light, which come on a standard Basilisk free, so with the kit it is impossible to build a real Basilisk.

Actually no. The Basilisk kit does not come with a heavy bolter piece in it. It drives me nuts to know that GW made a model and didn't even put the basic options in. It'd be like making a Guardsmen squad box that didn't come with enough lasguns for everyone.

Sadly GW downgraded the basilisk kit.
The old plastic kit had the correct options.
Now, they cleverly changed the box-illustrations....
ps: May I suggest to visit the GW-site? They show the sprues of their actual Tank kits there.

The heavy bolter also comes in the Hellhound kit. Since most of us don't use a heavy bolter with a Banewolf or Devil Dog, that leaves some spare HBs to trade to needy friends.

I'm going to have to do that myself to be honest. Problem was, all my spare heavy bolters were in California, and my army is at my dorm in Scotland. Bit of a ways to go.

All of those problems could be solved, simply by putting the accesory sprue back in, how it always was and how it worked for how many years? The Leman Russ kit was a very good kit, and instead of remaking the entire thing, what they should have done was simply another seperate sprue for the upgrades. There were other models which sorely needed updating in the imperial guard such as the rough riders, plastic storm troopers, and several HQ models.

I don't mind the remake of the Chimera and Leman kits except for a few problems like the illogical exclusion of a heavy bolter for the Basalisk and the lack of Chimera turret weapon options. The loss of the accessory sprue is the biggest loss and given that GW saved a sprue by eliminating the wheels, they surely could have kept the accessory sprue.
I don't know if Rough Riders will ever get updated but I still have high hopes for plastic storm troopers. Also hoping for Hydras but that seems unlikely.
Another way to get HBs is to buy the bits on Ebay. I bought a few extras for pocket change. You will likely want to buy several from one vendor so you can get reducing shipping costs per item.

Loss of the wheels is another shame, although I can see why. Still though, it seems they took out the fun sprues and charged you double for what's left =(

Wheels? Fun? How many IG armored vehicles have you built? I put together a score of Chimera and Russ models and variants and I hated the wheels!! They are good for conversions on other models but completely useless on the IG vehicles. You can't see them once the model is assembled and they are a pain to put together. The new kits are much less fiddly as long as you trim the track pieces neatly.
I do miss the extra track pieces. Fortunately I have bagfuls of leftover track from all of the old models I built.
I do agree that they seem to be charging a lot for what you get in the new boxes. It might be worth it if they are sinking the profits into production of more plastic kits. The new Hellhound, Valkyrie, and Manticore are nice additions. Let's see a Hydra, Colossus, and Medusa next! I would ask for Griffons too but I already have three and can't see a use for any more of them.

Yeah, the IG tanks don't come with accessory sprues anymore. I bought an OOP leman russ, and it had like 4 sprues on it! (Tracks, accessory, hull1,hull2 sprues)
It's a shame. Just another attempt to make you shell out more money on something you should get standard

Interestingly enough, the FW tanks all come with the accessory sprue.
This includes all the Mars Alpha leman russes, the Phaeton pattern upgrade and all the chimera hull resin/plastic kits.
In fact, with the Mars Alpha hulls, the in fact give you both a resin hull and a regular plastic hull + turret in addition to the accessories.

10 Leman Russes and 1 baneblade. However I'm a converter at heart and I use the wheels for a whole gakload of junk. They're my fav pieces and I never seem to have enough.

the old Russ turret looks just plain goofy compared to the new one, especially how boxy it is as opposed to the more streamlined and flat demolisher one. And the Wheels mostly got used for my mini-tanks conversions (and in one case, a Techmarine with a micro-tank as his wheelchair).
