This is the first draft of a Chaos Space Marines list for 'Ard Boyz. There are a few questionable things, particularly the HQ's. My question to the community is; "Will the basic idea of the list work at all, or should I just plan to play something else?" EDIT: A little tweak to the list. Khorne-Fed Bob Chaos Lord, Terminator armor, Lightning Claws, Mark of Khorne - 140 points Son of Bob Chaos Lord, Daemon weapon, Combi-melta - 140 points Summoned Greater Daemon Chaos Terminators x 3: 2 x Combi-melta, Power Fist - 110 points Chaos Terminators x 3: 2 x Combi-melta, Power Fist - 110 points Chaos Chosen x 5 Aspiring Champion, Power fist, Combi-melta; Melta gun - 145 points Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points Chaos Space Marines x 5 Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 135 points Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 point Chaos Space Marines x 5 Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 135 points Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points Chaos Space Marines x 5 Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 135 points Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points Chaos Space Marines x 5 Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 135 points Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points Chaos Space Marines x 5 Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 135 points Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points Lesser Daemons x 7 - 91 points Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points

They will perhaps split off after debarking. The big fella will just wait to do his thing. The Terminators will always deep-strike. The Chosen will either outflank or scout, depending on who goes first. If I get the models done, the Champ will have the combi-melta, but the fist will go on a regular fellow. The Champ is first choice for promotion to daemonhood. The troops will motor over and blast things with melta. With luck, some of the Rhinos' combi's will still be working on turn two so they can participate. The Daemons will tend to an objective. The Obliterators will obliterate. They will probably deep-strike if I don't go first.

Seems very squishy for ARD BOYZ but parts are solid. The obliterators are the best HS in the codex without a doubt so that is good. You have your 6 troop slots used up, but I would rather see 4 groups of 10 inside rhinos that 6 groups of 5. I played my CSM at the semifinals last year and take it from someone who has been there.....take 2 squads of chosen, 1 with 5 meltaguns a second with 5 plasmaguns in rhinos. They served me VERY well!! I beat 2 Leaf Blower lists very easily and then drew with a green tide list that had TONS of stormboyz.
good luck,

I came in - wait for it - fourth! Two massacres (Vulcan Marines, Black Legion) and a draw against Blood Angels weren't quite good enough. If I dropped the lightning-claw Lord, the Greater Daemon, and one squad of Marines, that would be 375 points. That would pay for the plasma vets (165) and 14 CSM. That would give eight in two squads and nine in the other two. Or, I could drop two to pay for the extra melta guns in the chosen. It's something to consider. I won't miss the Lord, but the SGD might be fun. Now that I think about it, the combi-melta in the Chosen squad is probably stupid; a melta gun should do nicely instead. I've got just about everything to build this list except the combi-meltas for the vehicles and a couple of combi-melta arms for the termies. But there are a couple of other lists that I'm considering as well, so we'll see.

Folks, I could really use some feedback on the vehicle combi-melta idea here. It would be great to hear if anyone has good experience with them before I shell out for six or seven of them at $6.60 each.
Or should I just dump 'em and put my Khorne banners back in.
I'm inclined to take the advice above about a plasma Chosen squad, although I might stick to four plasma guns since the Asp. Champ. will probably be number two on the list for promotion to SGD.
Bigger troop squads also appeal, I've usually played squads of eight with the Khorne banners and occasionally a squad of ten when on foot - which I'm trying to quit. I don't mind cutting the termie Lord and even the daemons to pay for more Marines, but I do want to keep the SGD. Although I would dearly love to keep as many troops as possible.
I've used the SGD only a time or two, and it hasn't been terribly successful, except at drawing heavy weapons fire, but I'm inclined to give the big guy another chance.
If I do drop the termie Lord, I will have to also drop the Khorne schtick as well. They could go back to the original Iron Warriors gag "Iron Warrirors Local 631", or I could go with "Khorne-forsaken" instead.

plasma def. Combi meltas..just not worth it lol i wouldnt use so much plasma if you want Khorne pleased with you. I would keep the four and use the Khorne banners. Maybe give out a mark of Khorne to Son of Bob? I also find chaos glory does nothing for me lol but its up to you pssst maybe an icon of you guessed Khorne lol. Or maybe Nurgle to a squad to give your true warriors some meatshields to soak up some fire.

Adding the plasma chosen would mean cutting a termicide squad. I was kinda digging the redundancy at that position. The Termicide unit does seem like decent value.
So are you voting against combi-meltas on the Rhinos? Or are you talking about the Asp. champs? Or both?
I will NOT use a Blood Feeder under any circumstances - well, any practical circumstances.
Khorne icons are pretty pricey; putting them back in would require some re-working. I do like the effect, but it wouldn't be worthwhile unless the squads were a bit bigger.
Sadly, the Khorne Lord is unlikely to make the cut; that's probably what I'm going to drop to get the points for anything else. The other Lord just seems better value. I'd think about Daemon princes, but I don't think they would intergrate well into this list.
The IoCG's are primarily for the deep-strikers, although I do like an Ld re-roll when I need it.
Thanks for the advice.

i was referring to the vehicle mounted ones. I understand the reluctance to get rid of the termicide unit lol invaluable asset. Daemon Princes are excellent choices like you said no idea how to use them with your list but wings, warptime, and a mark of say Khorne is just win.

I was so pleased with my clever idea to make the Rhinos a threat . I shall test it perhaps, before I order any. I have used one on the Chosen squad's Rhino a time or three, I don't remember any great success.
A Deamon Prince of Khorne does sound like good fun, especially with Warptime. I just don't think they can hide behind Rhinos well enough to survive against stiff opposition. And that configuration would be pretty nearly useless deep-striking.
Oh well, I've got other projects that are higher priority now in any case. Still, I'm interesting in finding a build that might compete with the competitive builds that one sees in tournaments these days.

good luck,
I second this. You'd offer a lot of kill points.
You don't need 6 troop units. Larger CSM units and two Chosen squads should be the way to go.
Lords are too slow for my liking and the Termies are suicide squads.

Here are two list revisions: One with two termicide squads and one with two Chosen. Both have four squads of CSM. The Lords ride with the Khorne squads.
I've dropped all of the daemons so I can reserve everything if necessary.
V1: Termicide x 2
Chaos Lord, Terminator armor, Lightning Claws, Mark of Khorne - 140 points
Chaos Lord, Daemon weapon, Combi-melta - 140 points
Chaos Terminators x 3: 2 x Combi-melta, Power Fist - 110 points
Chaos Terminators x 3: 2 x Combi-melta, Power Fist - 110 points
Chaos Chosen x 8
Power fist, Melta gun x 4 - 219 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Space Marines x 8
Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Khorne, melta gun - 210 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 point
Chaos Space Marines x 8
Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Khorne, melta gun - 210 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Space Marines x 10
Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 230 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Space Marines x 10
Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 230 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points
Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points
Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points
The Chosen squad got bumped up in size mainly due to some extra points and no good idea what to do with them.
V2: Chosen x 2
Chaos Lord, Terminator armor, Lightning Claws, Mark of Khorne - 140 points
Chaos Lord, Daemon weapon, Combi-melta - 140 points
Chaos Terminators x 3: 2 x Combi-melta, Power Fist - 110 points
Chaos Chosen x 5
Melta gun x 5 - 140 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Chosen x 5
Plasma gun x 5 - 165 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Space Marines x 8
Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Khorne, melta gun - 210 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 point
Chaos Space Marines x 8
Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Khorne, melta gun - 210 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Space Marines x 10
Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 230 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Chaos Space Marines x 10
Aspiring Champion, Power fist; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun - 230 points
Rhino, combi-weapon (melta) 45 points
Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points
Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points
Obliterator Cult x 3 - 225 points
Obviously, the second version has one more kill point.
In the first version, the Chosen play essentially the same role as the Termicide units; get close, blow something up, draw some fire.
In the second version, the melta Chosen will be a suicide unit while the plasma unit will troubleshoot; looking for nasty things like Thunderwolves or Assault Terminators and assist the Obliterators in obliterating things like that. At least those are my initial thoughts.
I'm considering splitting melta and plasma in the Chosen squads, maybe two melta and three plasma each. Has any one tried something like that?
Which list do you like?
Feel free to criticize details, like the crappy Terminator Lord, or anything else.
I still don't think Princes fit in this list as Rhinos don't do that good of a job of hiding them and deep-striking them doesn't really seem like a good idea. But I could be wrong.

i approve of this list. another idea is for the Rhino maybe a havoc launcher? twin linked is always good lol.(sacrifice on power though) The DP is well always an HQ choice of mine for its toughness five and the upgrades you can give him.and i believe he will be cheaper than the chaos lord but just as good? (open to interpretation lol) cover is a bit of a concern.. However if you have wings you can book it twelve inches to some decent cover in theory. If not he is going to just die probably second turn. other than my personal preference i think you have an excellent list slaughter well
lol i feel i am forcing DP on you haa

I haven't really tried either. I'm probably going to play Witch Hunters with IG allies in 'Ard Boyz, or maybe just IG.
I have played some Chaos. This is what I played last time out.
Chaos Lord: Daemon Weapon, combi-melta - 140 points
Summoned Greater Daemon - 100 points
Chaos Chosen x 5: Aspiring Champion, Melta gun x 2, Plasma gun x 2, Rhino - 185 points
Chaos Chosen x 5: Aspiring Champion, Melta gun x 2, Plasma gun x 2, Rhino - 185 points
Chaos Chosen x 5: Aspiring Champion, Melta gun x 2, Plasma gun x 2, Rhino - 185 points
Chaos Space Marines x 8: Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun, Rhino - 225 points
Chaos Space Marines x 8: Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun, Rhino - 225 points
Chaos Space Marines x 8: Aspiring Champion, Power fist, combi-melta; Icon of Chaos Glory, melta gun, Rhino - 225 points
Lesser Daemons x 8 - 104 points
Obliterator Cult x 2 - 150 points
Obliterator Cult x 2 - 150 points
Obliterator Cult x 2 - 150 points
I've also played some lists with one or two Sorcerors with Lash. It's big fun.
So, sadly, Khorne-Fed Bob has been consigned to the shelf of shame and Khorne has been forsaken.

I shall endeavor to give something similar a try once we start testing for 'Ard Boyz. I shall not likely actually use Chaos in 'Ard Boyz, but it'll give the other fellows something different to play against.
The Termie Lord is certainly not going to be included, not are any Terminators likely to be involved. My thinking now would be to use a few large, robust squads - probably two - along with several small units. I might even try to work some Bezerkers in.

Your latest list has a few problems. If I was you just put the Champions in the Chosen units as they cost cheaper if I remember right but also it's a suicide unit. Then consider your other Champions are costing 15 points + 15 points + 25 points + 10 points which is 65 points per Champion! Multiple that by 3 is 195 points; that's 195 points just for a fist and combi melta and possible Daemon fodder. I would drop the power fists and get another squad.

I might just drop the Asp. champs if I had Plague Marines to substitute for the CSM. The squads would have to smaller of course. One melta gun per squad is simply insufficient. I just don't dig it enough to spring for more models, especially with a codex that can't be long for this world.
I could also make champs with just combi-meltas or I could dump the Champs for two more Marines with one more melta gun.
I made these champs when these guys were pretending to be Space Wolves. They made much more sense as Wolf Guard - and illustrate the wretched excess that is Codex:Space Wolves.
Of course what I'd like to do is add the Khorne banners back to two of the squads.

Don't take Champions period unless running Greater Daemons and then minimize the amount of Champions you're taking.
