Subject: General question regarding WoC and 8th

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge
|
I've seen many WoC lists on here and on Youtube, and I always still seem to see BSB's in the list without a magic banner. I was wondering why they would do this with WoC already getting the re-roll on the LD test. Am I missing something?
I have yet to roll a single dice in Fantasy since I think 3rd edition. Long time Fantasy player here just whos been building a WoC list for about 1.5 years just casually painting it up.
Thanks,
-Skawt

Taking a magic banner prevents the BSB from taking defensive magic items. Not having a ward save is too big a risk for most players. Besides - the warrior units can take most magic banners.

So its basically just used as +1 CR, since just about everything gets to re-roll LD because of whatever that rule is called?

Auspicious Aspiring Champion of Chaos

Warriors get to re-roll panic thanks to Will of Chaos. The BSB helps cover them for swift reforms, combat reforms, fear checks, and probably most importantly, break tests. Lots of utility there, and that doesn't even include the combat resolution bonus.
Unless you have an army that can reasonably hide it's BSB in a unit that won't get engaged early, the BSB should often have good protective gear. And as RantheCid pointed out, standard warrior units can take most of the magic banners you might need.
The only reasons I can think to put a magic banner on a Warriors BSB is if you really wanted:
- One of the expensive banners (like doom totem)
- Two double up effects (make a unit armor piercing and flaming)
- A flexible boost (like a flaming banner that can switch units depending on the threat)

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I see.
I didn't realize that Will of Chaos didn't cover all those, guess I must have overlooked it, now it makes sense. Thank you very much.

Or you could take THROGG with a bunch of monsters / monstrous infantry, and re-roll your break tests near him (acting as a BSB to those types of units) . But it's only for break tests... stupidity tests, ugh
But yes, the prevalence of a BSB in WoC army lists (considered by many to be a required staple now) are primarily for re-rolling break tests in combat, although it's wasted on panic checks for WoC since any unit with Will of Chaos can re-roll those, anyway!

Either is good, but the optimal BSB is Tzeentch with some sort of ward like the talisman of endurance for the 5++ that is now a 4++. That is if it is not on your general.

Having tried out a BSB for the first time in my WoC list this weekend, I'm in love. Re-rolling stupidity... yes, please!
The 4+ ward save item, mark of tzeentch (making it a 3+ ward save) and the charmed shield (ignore first hit on a 2+) seem to be really popular. I had one on disc and the extra manueverability was great, although I'll probably try a juggernaut version as well.
