Uh, what?
The armour?

It's about 65mm less than normal?
The normal one has 91-95mm of armour made up of 2 layers of ceramite, 1 titanium/plasteel layer, 1 adamantium layer and 1 thermoplas layer which is equivalent to 365mm conventional steel armour.

Welcome to Dakka Dakka by the way.

yeah, the armour. Thanks.

300mm steel is too soft. if that was true, that beans bolters are just exploding bb guns.
Modern tanks have more armour.
Does than mean an Abrams would take out a land raider no problem?!?

300mm seems to contradict fluff alot.

Don't forget, they're not meant to be using modren metals. They're using awesome futuristic metal that's super tough.

Except iirc they say "equivalent of". So if may only be a few millimeters of adamantine protecting a Raider, but that's still only ~300 mm of steel.

Forge World basically had no idea what they were talking about when they wrote that. It is totally inconsistent with everything else in 40k and can be safely ignored.

That still makes the raider weak, and bolters bb guns.

its protected by: 2 layers of ceramite, 1 titanium/plasteel layer, 1 adamantium layer and 1 thermoplas layer, equivalent to 365mm conventional steel armour, according to lexicanum/IA2

Conventional Steel!?!?!?

srsly, would than even hold the 10 termies inside?

So, its stupid and should be disregarded?

P.S.: sorry for double post.

Basically, IA1 is ancient fluff, and has been replaced by later pieces of evidence. While I enjoy how FW treats 40k like actual history most of the time, they seriously needed to do more research before saying that it's the equivalent of 300 mm of plain steel. Sure it sounds impressive, but compared to what we can do now? It's nothing.

Got to love made up numbers.

"Yep, land raiders are brilliant. They have 30% the armour of a modern tank. Wait..."

ETA, the FW guys are WW2 buffs mostly and 300mm would have been awesome then (100-150mm was considered good. The tiger was about 200mm at a couple of points). Easy to misjudge just how much technology has increased in the last 60 years.

Probably work

Well, maybe with less commas, but you're acting like retcon is unusual. In the RT era days, Space Marines are only about 7-8 feet tall. Nowadays, they're 9-10, with some of the most powerful being as tall as 11 feet.

It's fluff creep.

No, in RT-era space marines are savages and psychos that are brainwashed into being fanatical soldiers. They're physically normal guys (S4 because of their armour, still T3).

Huh. I wonder which rulebook I'm thinking of then. Either way, your correction only goes further to prove the point. The fluff radically changes over time. Next thing you know Space Marines will be 20 feet tall firing bolter shells as large as beer cans.

Standard space marines are 8 feet tall in armor. Some books describe them as taller or shorter, most games show them as shorter. A safe approximation is under 9 feet in armor for a marine.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

I know that I've read descriptions of them being 3 Meters tall, which is close to 10 feet. That's probably in armor though.
