Hi,

I just got back from a newly-discovered hobby store with a box of german soldiers that I planned to gs on top of to make death korps, but they are too small!(just under an inch, so a head shorter than most man sized models, and these are NOT heroic scale)

Would you guys allow me to use models this small? I was planning on maybe making their bases a little more raised to not hamper LoS..

Thank you

PS. Not sure if this means anything, but I found a picture of what they look like to show you all online. The models are not mine.

Hmm, 1/72 stuff is really small compared to 40k, I have a few 1/35 vehicles I proxy as various IG things and nobody has called shenannigans yet, so I would let you use them as long as upgrades, special weapons and the like were represented.

Scale is way off, so I would have to say no.

GW typically don't allow other companies models to be used in stores-well unless they're close enough to their models that its hard to tell in my expeiriance at least-, but those are just a little too small really to be proxied as guardsman. Plenty of other companies do similar models on a larger scale on the cheap btw, but if you've already bought them you'd have to ask your local opponents about this.=/

For testing or temporary proxing I think they will be ok, but remember about other players. Most of them like the design of 40k models, and the ywant to play with armies that are designed that way.

Funny, that two of your last three posts on this board ask whether non-GW non-heroic scaled minis would be acceptable for use... maybe if you were using GW minis, you wouldn't be asking these questions...

Yes, I do tend to not want to have replicas of everyone else's armies. I am sorry, as I see you chose a Space Marine army, not to mention one of the more popular armies.

Yes, yes, yes, you're trying to be unique... just like everyone else.

Your next topic, after this debate is settled, will be a discussion about whether true line-of-sight applies to shorter than average minis, if a small wall grants full cover or not, right?

I really don't want to start a hostile argument, so to put it nicely, I am aware on the rules of true line of sight. I would not need to ask the rules, and I stated on the first post that I would make their bases more scenic to add a slight raise in height..maybe.

Have a good day.

Don't start a flame war guys. ¬¬

Meh, they're not exactly the right scale, but if you did them up to look like the Death Korps or the like and just say that they come from a high gravity world or the like in their fluff, you could probably get away with using them in friendly games. No need to waste good minatures, if they look the part, what's the problem with using them?...But maybe not in a horde though...It'd make it seem as though the marines are compensating or something.=P

I do not like the sound of that fluff. Squat Korps of Krieg?

They are not that much shorter than a real guardsman, just their proportions are more skinny..

I guess now marines will look true scale against me?

Heh, hey not everyone's the same height in the armies of today let alone the ones of the far future, and during the Second World War it was common to let those who were beneath the minimum height to fight (though these models aren't that small). Its been forty odd million years, a world's population could have developed in any number of ways, just call it a prevalent trait in the gene pool or the like. =P.

This makes me think of how me and my friend tease eachother over Pygmies and Halflings..

I usually am the one doing the laughing ,:
''Haha you picked a halfling as your DnD character thinking it's half human half elf? ''

''You know, your lizardmen army were killed by pygmies in the fluff''

Now he will be saying ''Is your leader Frodo?''

You're off by a tad (order of magnitude) there. Forty odd THOUSAND years, not MILLION. Closer to 38,000 years to be more accurate.
Humans haven't been around for 40,000,000 years even by the 41st Millennium.

Still, 38,000 years is enough time for significant genetic drift and diversity (or blending) so you could have everything from "Eurasian" to each of the separate ethnic genetic groups again.

I'd play against them. Then again, at least they'd be true-scale against Marines. and anyway, I've done so in the past. 5 more years and my SF infantry will all be playing Tomorrow's War (or similar) than GW games anyway.

1/72 is closer to 20mm than 28mm (even when GW CAN be bothered to be consistent with scale). Put them next to FW Elysians or krieg and the differences are not so obviously large.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I'd let you use them if you put the effort in to blend them in. I wouldn't use them myself though - the difference in size is pretty unavoidable.

i would say more than likely no, because if they are a smaller size, they have the ptential to effect the outcome of the game

1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress

My concern would be purely aesthetic.

I would be happy to play an army slightly smaller (e.g. realistic scale) than GW, but 1/72 is too small to make sense.

I'd be fine with it, but I don't play competitively. I'm sure you'd hear a different story amongst people who play to win...
I do understand the people with aesthetic concerns as well though - an entire army of short guys might look a little strange when lined up against a normal one. As long as you painted them up nicely (and did your height boost, if you could), it would still beat all the armies of grey plastic out there though!
