I was reading through my army book and 3 things came to mind;


Firstly, what is the range of the warp-lightning cannon?

Secondly, what does the damage stat do? The warpfire thrower has it as well as others. (I'm guessing it had a role in 7th but not any more)

Thirdly and more of a general question, if a weapon is magical does it do any thing other than hurt ethereal creatures?


I know I should know better but I don't, so all help is appreciated.

1. 60" I believe, same as a great cannon.

2. The damage stat is the same as the "Multiple Wounds" rule found in the main rulebook.

3. Not really? Some things care about magical weapons, but for the most part no. It does deny White Lions the bonus to their save against ranged attacks though!

Magical Weapons also negate the save forest spirits get. So Skaven are very nasty against Wood Elves if they bring alot of Forest Spirits, or even worse against those all Forest Spirit armies!

Oh, and Warp Lightning cannons use the normal Cannon profile, so are only 48" range (it's in the FAQ also).

No it doesn't. the White Lions' Lion Cloak Rule states "White Lions add +2 to their armour save against shooting attacks." Now, what part of it being a "magic attack" doesn't make it a shooting attack? "shooting attacks" are anything that happens in the shooting phase. White lions don't get any extra save against SPELLS, but magical shooting attacks are shooting attacks.

Why are you taking armour saves against the WLC to begin with?

"No armour saves are allowed against any shots from the warp lightning cannon."

White Lions get no save against this, but not only White Lions... NO ONE gets an armour save against it.

**Edit** Realized you may have only been referencing how magic attacks and not specifically the WLC affects White Lions

In that case, if it is a magical shooting attack, but a shooting attack nonetheless, then White Lions would still benefit from their ruling as Arion has pointed out.

Well its nice to know that magical attacks do something and that my WFT causes D3 wounds (damage D3).

But what I'm unsure of is where did the 60'' range come from on the WLC as far as I can see it would be a normal cannon if anything. But I have no clarification on this either.

The range isn't 60" its 48"

As per the Skaven FAQ...

Q. What’s the range of the Warp-Lightning cannon? 48" or 60"?
A. 48". (p68)

I was under the impression the Lion Cloak didn't work against magical attacks?

In retropsect, I'm not sure why...

Not like those White Lions ever stayed around long for me anyways. They ALWAYS ran off the table. I know, Ld 8 stubborn with the General and BSB nearby should never run, but somehow they do. It's quite the running joke at my FLGS. My white Lions run, my Phoenix Guard die, and my swordmasters don't kill a thing. The best unit I have in my HE army are the Dragon Princes, and they aren't all that special.

Have you ever thought about playing goblins?
They will run, die and not kill a thing for a lot less points, and you won't get mocked for them doing (or not doing) it.

I can't make an armor save to save my life; so I gave up on chaos warriors and loaded up on goblins and savage orcs.

Actually I decided to play Vampire counts, at least they won't run. Still can't kill anything, but at least they are sticking around.
