A real shame you had to end that game early. Looked like really good fun. I look forward to reading about the rematch

Aaargh!

Looks like a fantastic game, after reading the armylists, I thought you were going to have a real emotional time - good skills on clawing the win (pardon the pun)!!

Sadly, I think it was the dice that trumped my skill. My doomed genestealers took a 30 dice bladestorm with no casualties. Sure, I went to ground for 3+ and had 4+ FnP, but I should have lost some.

Then there was Eldrad rolling a 1 to save against a single str8 wound...

Don't be so hard on yourself. Over the course of the game all rolls will average out. Also, with a 3+ cover and FNP you only did slightly better than average with no deaths. I believe 2.5 unsaved wounds would have been average for the situation.

If it weren't for dice and rolling high/low in tense situations, there would be no reason to play 40k at all. Randomness helps keep the game exciting!

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I noticed your Hive Tyrant is the same cost as the Swarmlord. Have you considered taking the Swarmlord? You won't have the HVC, preferred enemy bubble, 2+ armor save or regeneration. However you get a HtH instantkill, (an overall better combat monster) a bigger synapse bubble, preferred enemy or furious charge on one unit within 18", +1 to reserves and a reroll to outflanking.

I've read all your reports when you used the 280pt Tyrant and so far I don't think the Swarmlord would have been an inferior choice. In fact againt Jay's bug list you might have been able to instantkill a few big bugs in the fight.

Yeah, I agree the Swarmlord is better than a buffed-up tyrant, but your tyrant does have it's uses (AT). But I would prefer to swap out regen for 1x TL-devourers. I would also probably drop 1 tyrant guard for another hive guard. As it is, your tyrantstar, with 2+/3+ saves, 4+ cover, 4 ablative T6 wounds and FNP is already durable enough. Any more and it isn't terribly efficient.

Good battle. That seems to be a tough footdar list, very similar to Blackmoor's list (hmmmm....wonder if there's some influence there). But I think nids match up well against eldar. Eldar have a difficult time against T6 tyranids especially with more than 1 tervigons. I think my list with 6x biovores would have a jolly good time with that one.

I just.....really don't see how his list does so well....at all. How does he do against armor?

I guess the strategy, rather than kill all the enemy tanks, is kill a tank and eradicate the unit inside.....but does that even work? And I suppose you can fortune the Avatar....but people are used to dealing with 6 wound Tervigons with fnp in cover, so an avatar isn't exactly HARDER to deal with...

Though I suppose he IS immune to melta weaponry, so that's something there....
