Out with the old and on with the new...tanks

I'm a relatively new player of 40k, and one set of questions that has always lived in the back of my brain has decided to come out for air: Which version of the Rhino (and to a lesser extent, LR) based tanks do you prefer to model/play with? Why? Do you mix and match the models or their bitz?

Just to clarify, Mk1 = Older model, prevalent from RT to 3rd and Mk2 = current model. If there is a better/more widely accepted way to class these lil monsters, please tell me; I like to learn new things about the tanks and the marines!

The current Rhino is at least the third iteration of that model.

And to answer your question, I'll be extremely presumptuous here and speak for everyone who plays 40k and say they play with whatever they happen to own.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

York/London(for weekends) oh for the glory of the british rail industry

the old tanks looked rubbish, simple as

Relictors: 1500pts

its safe to say that relictors are the greatest army a man , nay human can own.

i love the sleeker lower silhouette of the MK1, it more fits the theme of marines being a rapid strike force than the Box that is the newer kit, that being said I love the new pred, as compared to the MK1 it looks like it has heavier amour.

Its all swings and roundabouts, no "simple as"

There have only been two Rhino models. The 1st-3rd edition model and the 3rd-current edition model.

I have a load of both, the new one is much nicer.

There have been three predators: the original is awesome, the second is terrible (the one with metal parts) and the new one is pretty good.

I'm fond of the old one, it's got a sleeker look to it and it feels like a blank slate you can add to. The current model looks too boxy.

I own three of the Mk.II Predators (the ones with the metal parts), and two of the current plastic ones (done up as Chaos Predators). I prefer the new plastic ones. And I prefer the original Mk.I Predator over all of them.

For the Rhino I prefer the current one, but I like having the old one for my Chaos army because I like my Chaos army to have a more haphazard look, as though some of their equipment is new, some of it is old (it's why I've got Chaos Havocs with weapons stretching back to the RT days as well as modern Havocs).

Whoa, people actually speaking their minds; I like this site.

I personally just love to mix and match my tanks. At first it started as whatever tanks I could get my hands on quick and cheap, then it developed into a full blown effort to put together a motorpool with lots of options. About the only thing I don't own yet is a version of a dakka pred, mk1 or mk2.

I also prefer a mk1 chassis to fiddle with when I need to build one. Less fiddly parts!

personally i like the older ones, especially the land raider.... MK1 was best in my opinion of the land raider, it looked beast and was easy to assemble at least for me

I think GW would actually make a good chunk of money if they sold the old kits. Or maybe FW could do it. Either way, I think the old kits definitely had a lot of charm, and it would be nice to have a way to get them.

There's plenty of them floating around ebay. I'm just too lazy to buy one
