I was wondering why they don't release the boxsets anymore. I got a SM mega force last year well worth the money if your just starting with the army.

They still advertise them on sites but all say discontinued, I probably know the answer (money saving & GW) just i got a heap of money over christmas and one of the more vehicle heavy boxsets would do just nice right now.

Is there anything like them likely to be released again?

We had armoured strike force, strike force, mega force, battle company I know they do the battle force for £50 but its a pants set really.

I was really hoping to see them this year too.

Wish they'd do it but it doesn't seem likely. Next big release is Skaven 2nd wave. Then either DH or O&G.

The battle force is the standard box. Once they made big army deals including metals for each new release with almost no savings just early release and a limited edition metal miniature, discontinued several years ago due to lack of sales. Other special deals are always limited edition, usually for Xmas or when promoting Apocalypse games.

The bigger sets, while a good chunk of savings, tend to scare people away with their even more ridiculous price tags. I remember the Army Boxes were somewhere along the lines of 300 or something. While it was an overall 40% savings, no one wanted to shell out 300 at once. The Wood Elf Armybox that was released waaaaay back then is still sitting on the FLGS shelves right now, with another 20% taken off it.

The smaller boxsets where you got one transport and one squad of troops are also kinda unpopular due to the fact that for a few bucks more you can get a battle force, which has all of the tinier box's contents, and then some. I have no idea why they discontinued the Megaforce though, those were pretty good deals for not quite high a price.

Anyone remember the Armoured Company and Space Marine Battle Company box sets released around Apocalypse? IIRC, those hit about ~$1000au.

I do, seeing those boxes were what brought me back to the space marines...but they didn't exist by the time I was willing to shell out the cash!

I think you can still buy the Spear of Sicarius if you have about twenty grand!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Emperor's Fist Tank company. Kinda regret not getting the Emperor's Wrath Artillery company tho. Basilisks and possible Medusa conversions are really tempting me.

Best Apoc kit that I got was the one with the 4 Land Raiders. That one was ace. Also got the Vindicator one (still haven't built it!

) and the 10 Sentinel one.

A friend of mine got the Dread/Kan one that had 3 Dreads and 6 Kanz. They sent him 6 Dreads and 3 Kanz, so he wrote them and said he was missing 3 Kanz, and they sent him the missing Kanz. Of course he might have left out the part about getting 6 Dreads rather than 3.

Does anyone know if there are any SM sets still available to buy, I got a mega force last year from the wolverhampton store, they still had a few left then.
Either in store or via other online sites, or any sites selling bundles or an army. I've seen loads of second hand budles on ebay but i'd rather have them new.

I guess i'm just gonna have to buy the stuff individually, my search is drying up.

GW discontinued anything larger than a battle force. They likely wont release anything big until the "Summer of Flyers" or until 6th edition comes out.
