I prefer the sickle style and will often use the bolters from bikes. Which do you like better?

Barrel drum mags. The Stern guard models have them. They are sick.

Yeah, the big drums looks great. I like the big drum-fed Stormbolter that the Ltd. Ed. 'Mohawk' Marine from 4th Ed's army box had. This guy:

Before the bean-counters upstairs realised that army boxes were *gasp* giving a discount *gasp* and they were discontinued, GW made a big army box for each army. It was usually packed with new troops and whatnot (ie. the Guard one had the metal Cadian Command Squad, 40 Guardsmen, 6 HW Teams... and a Chimera I think; the Chaos one had, from memory, 16 Chaos Marines, 12 Berzerkers, metal Chaos Lord, 3 Oblits, 5 Raptors, Chaos Rhino, 5 metal Havocs) and they also usually had a Limited Edition model in them (Necron one had the Lord w/Staff of Light, Tyranid one had a Lictor, Chaos had a Possessed Champ) and the Space Marine one of the time (4th Ed) came with that Mohawk Marine.

A friend of mine didn't want him, so I got him!

Sir, I think you've made a mistake. You used "Discount" and "GW" in the same body of text. Just for that, I'm going to have to disregard everything you said.

That sounds magnificent though! GRR GW. Make it worth my while to buy your products again!!!

It's a great model. Looks like fun to paint too. I know I had fun with that honour guard mohawk guy

Thos army boxes sound great. I am assuming the battle forces that we have now are nothing in comparison?

I wish I had started 40k earlier. Or they would re release that model. I want one for my stern guard.

The army boxes would be a limited release item when the Codex came out - each store would get 2-6 of them (or so, depending on store size) and once they were gone they were gone. The Battleforce usually came out around the same time or just after. Sometimes they sold like hot-cakes. Sometimes they didn't. My local GW (at the time) had a Tyranid one for about 2 years before they put it in their display case with a "$xxx or best offer!" in order to get rid of it (they were Fortress of Redemption-sized boxes after all, so took up a lot of room). Friend of mine haggled them down to about half-price, and that's how I got my Ltd. Ed. Lictor.

The battleforces have been getting progressively smaller. The old chaos one was like 40 dudes and a land raider, which was later replaced by a defiler. Lemme google really quick to see what the dudes were

Ah, okay. Someone on librarium says
mm I bought two of the old battle boxes. I seem to recall 20 CSM 8 zerkers 4 bikers 1 defiler 1 rhino. and something else i can't recall.

Okay, so they were a premade army you could buy with a new codex. That sounds like a cool idea. To bad they stopped.

The last Chaos 'Army Box', that amusing had a sticker that said "Contains Chaos Codex", given it's the current 'Chaos' Codex, the sticker was more of a warning than a bonus (!).

It had...

Terminator Lord
15 Chaos Marines (the re-cut sprue that contained 5 guys) &
5 Possessed
2 of the new Champion sprues.
12 Berzerkers (everything comes with Berzerkers - they're like McDonald's Fries)
Rhino
Defiler

And it may have had 5 Terminators. Don't hold me to that though. No bikes.

And some Battleforces do suck more now. The Catachan one used to be 25 Catachans, 3 HW Teams and 2 Sentinels (plus some plastic trees!). Now it's 20 Catachans, 5 Command, 3 HW's and one Sentinel. Uhh...

well, regardless, things aren't as cool as they used to Then again, large boxes like that don't really apply to everyone, so there might be a lot of stuff you don't need.

I however, display my csm army as one big horde, so 'lots of stuff I don't need' = Bigger display

For a while they tried a thing called a 'Spearhead', which was literally a box that had all the new releases in it. They... weren't successful. The worst one was the Marine one for the 5th Ed Codex. It had all all Ultramarine stuff, including Sicarius... and Kantor. Yeah.

Sadly with so much plastic nower days Army Boxes would be even better. Could you imagine a Dark Eldar one?

Archon
5 Incubi
20 Kabalite Warriors
10 Wyches
3 Reaver Jetbikes
5 Hellions
1 Raider
1 Ravager

An army in a box. Doesn't have all the new releases, just most of them, and a few from Wave 2. Would have been a nice touch.

They renamed Army Boxes "Spearheads" a while back before completely discontinuing it. General perks included limited edition models. my fav one was the Bonesinger from the Eldar box.

Back on topic, I dont care if the belt-fed one jams, it's awesome damnit! Otherwise I'd go with the Sickle type mag. I dont thin kI've seen a straight mag other than the CSM's belt-fed one.

The New BA battleforce is rumoured to include the furioso dreadnought, which would be a step in the right direction, I think. I mean, seriously? A rhino? Like I don't have a thousand of those already

I like the stormbolter mags on normal boltguns. Otherwise, the standard boltgun one is fine, imo. Belt-feeds are silly, they'd have to be much longer to be even slightly usable.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.
