Hi guys,

I have just purchased a shiny looking High Elf dragon, but alas, the rock base does nothing for me. I want my dragon to be flying- not looking like he's about to face-plant after an ill-advised dive of a low ruin.

To do this, I intend to fashion him a flying base similar to the ones used for other flying beasties. However, I want him to be flying reasonably high- certainly higher than the current tallest flying base I can find. I was thinking the best way would be to get a clear plastic rod and make a hole in the underside of the dragon for it to slot into... but I have no idea where to get such a rod, and what size I aught to use.

Obviously I will check on e-bay, but what size? Would 4mm be too thick? Or would anything smaller than that be too flimsy to keep Mr Dragon aloft?

Any ideas/ advice?

4mm should be OK for the dragon since it is plastic. I have seen things larger than that held up with a small brass rod but if you intend to game with it, then the stronger the better!

You could try the Valkyrie flying base. They sell that for I believe $10 on GW's site.

Yeah, I don't want him wobbling and flopping about up there- that would be a bit embarrising. At the same time, though, I don't want a rod the same width as the dragon's belly, cos that would be ugly...

I hadn't thought of that! Any idea how tall it is? I can't see a hight measurment on the site.

Off hand? Nope, but it's taller than the base is long, so I'm guessing somewhere in the 6-7" range.

Scroll down, he sells either a 6" acrylic rod, or 12", should hold your dragon very steady, if you support it correctly at both ends.

Nice. If it is, then that might be problem solved. I will have to ask around the local club and see if anyone has one that I can poke at.

Dragonforge does SPECTACULAR work at great prices.
I have a SLEW of their "Lost Empires" bases that I will be using for my Dark Eldar army, and I have some of their Skull Counters to use as Pain Tokens, too!
