Hey everyone,

We will be hosting our 'Second Saturday' GW tournament this weekend on Saturday, January 8. Sorry about the late notice; between the holidays in retail and everything else that's been going on I have hardly had a spare moment!

For the 40k side bring 2000 points; I've adjusted the battle points a bit based on player feedback over the last couple months, and we'll be shaking up the scenario mix and including some stuff that's not straight out of the BRB, to help keep things interesting. Please make sure to have your models and army list ready to go when you arrive! Starting with this event I will be instituting the following bonus points:

+1 tournament point for being at the store and ready to play at 10:00am
+1 tournament point for being back on time from lunch

(thanks to Yakface for that one!)

For Fantasy Battle, we will be ready to run at 2250 points; I'll be mixing up the scenarios including throwing in some older-style stuff and rolling in a new soft score concept this time.

For both events, we will be running 3 rounds starting at 10:00am, with a $10 entry (or $20 purchase). There will be prizes for Best Overall, Best General, Best Sportsman, and Best Army. Prizes are awarded in GW product of the winner's choice.

Everyone was happy with the new prize split, so we will be sticking with the 75-25-25-25 split for prizes.

The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:
9:00am - 10:15 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:15am - 12:30pm - Round 1
12:30 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:15 - Round 2
3:30 - 5:45 - Round 3
6:00 - Winners announced

It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena
2302 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA. 91107
626-304-9333
www.gameempirepasadena.com

I have started a thread for this event at the new Game Empire Pasadena forums, http://gameempirepasadena.com/forum/index.php, so you can check that out as well.

Finally, if anyone out there is interested in being available as a 'ringer' for the at least the first round or two, I would be very appreciative and spiff you accordingly. Basically, you'd pay no entry fee, only have to play for the first round or two as your schedule permits, and get some swag in exchange for making sure the odd man has an actual game, instead of just free points. And if we get a even number of players, you'd be free to hang or bail as you see fit.

If you have any comments or questions, let me know here or give a call to the store, and hopefully I'll see you there!
-Dis.

Looks like I will be in attendance as well! Except this time NOT as just a ringer for the first round. See you all there!

These events always sound awesome! I wish I had more time to make the drive out. I would love to meet and play against some of you guys from CnC too. Maybe next time I am out LA way I will drop a line to get a pick up game.

We're almost in the same boat as I have half my army to finish before Saturday. Given that I am *not* a good painter, and your stuff already looks great, I don't think I'll post any pix.

It is largely the list you usually see in C&C threads. Much like November's RTT winner (though I'd assembled it before I'd seen his ). As for it being pretty good, the opponent you and I both know wasn't playing optimally; he was using his Ultras like SW. His own words.

The 2nd DP looks far better than the first. Maybe I'll post those pix.

Thanks! Probably not Salamanders this time; I want to play my Wolves. I haven't gotten to use the Sons of Russ at a tournament in 4 or 5 months because I have been playing Salamanders due to Wolf over-saturation! But you can see my Salamanders any day of the week at Game Empire, they live in one of the glass display cases on the gaming side of the store.

@Broere Still, the list looked pretty solid when I saw it.

I know I won't be at the event but is there a place I could go to find what special scenario(s) you are going to be running before the event? I know I like to see things like that before hand, and if you wouldn't mind, I would like to pass it on to our gaming groups leader so we can get a little more variety in our scene out here.

Gah! Turns out I won't be able to make it out to this. I'll be confined to my area this weekend (Orange County) due to my mother and sister's BACK to BACK birthdays! Perhaps it's for the best. I still have a lot of painting to do and I certainly wouldn't feel too jazzed about throwing bare plastic and metal onto the table. eww. BUT I'm absolutely looking forward to the next one!!

Sadly it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to the first tournament to utilize my patented 'bonus point for being on-time', which I was looking forward to gaining!

Oh well...

BTW, any chance we could occasionally get a tournament with a different point value thrown in just for a bit of spice? Maybe like once every 4-5 months try out a 1,500 point tournie? You could maybe even squeeze in a 4th game that way...

Touche. The Saints lost and now I have little to care about in terms of Pro Football...

I took over all with my Space Wolves
IG got best General
Another IG player got best army
Space Wolves took Best Sportsman

Mostly Imperial on the tables, to be sure. Chaos and Tyranids repped the anti-imperials for the day. We had one Ork player who came to play as a ringer for the first round, which ended up being unnecessary, and another bug player who was only around for the morning. We even had a small WHFB event.

Our new campaign starting this week in the store is an escalation-style format, building from 500-point games to 1500 over eight weeks; I've been considering running the March 40k event at 1500 since all of our local players will have been playing at that level. I will keep this space posted as soon as the decision is made, of course. I'd love to get an extra round in, I just need to play at 1500 for a while to get a feel for how much time the game needs to breathe properly.

Overall it was a great event, congrats to the winners, and hopefully we'll see everyone again in February!

Hey Dis, are you going to do one of the tournament wrap up articles for your blog? I always enjoy reading those and would be interested in seeing/hearing about the armies that toook the topp prizes

Yeah man, I'm hoping to have it up tonight sometime. I got pictures of the armies and some of the action during the day, and I'll have a recap that's as detailed as I can muster.
