So, I've become infatuated with this model as of late. Something about an OOP frenzy going on in my head I've already decided on buying one, so don't try to convince me of buying a FW dread or converting a loyalist one. I have neither the time nor funds to do either :3

But I have a couple questions. Most of them obvious to anyone who's owned one of these behemoths:
- How well do plastic dreadnought arms swap with them? Seeing as I can't really magnetize it without a gakload on converting, I'd like to know in advanced
- Does the torso attack to the legs via 'peg', or is it a ball and socket sort of thing?
- Does it come with an accessory sprue? The box is pretty small, so I can't be sure. I need the smoke launchers
-any issues with them falling over? The dread was made in the 'no large base' era, so I'm sure GW worked it out. But it IS a huge chunk of metal, so..yeah
- any parts that need to be painted before assembly? I was planning on doing the arms separately, but the torso as a whole piece.
- what DCCW options does it come with? I know there used to be a claw, a hammer, and that flail thingy. I plan on using the flail, which I know is included. That thing is gnarly
- Plasma Cannon and heavy bolter only? =/

Thanks

I assume it works along the same lines as the Bjorn era of dreads, so should be compatable with those type of parts. It comes with a Power Scourge and a Power Hammer as far as I know, as well as a Plasma Cannon and HB. Also, the thing is priced rather high due to it being a chunk of metal, so while you may not have time, you definately have the funds to convert a loyalist one =P But I do understand the narmcharm it brings.

Yeah. I find a giant hunk of metal more than welcome in my army, especially in case I need to throw it at someone

Plastic dreadnoughts are for pansies. Buy your Brootal metal furiosos while you still can

The lower body has a peg that fits into the upper body, arms have holes that the shoulder pegs fit into. It comes with a power scourge and a thunderhammer for a left arm weapon (they had different special rules in 2nd edition) For the right arm you get a plasma cannon, twin linked autocannons, and twinlinked heavy bolters (although those weapon sculpts are looking kind of dated now)
I tried to magnetize mine but the arms are so heavy they droop and I cant keep them level. I was thinking of getting rid of mine since I picked up a couple of FW dreads, but I kind of got nostalgic too whenever I looked at it.

err its been a long time since ive picked up one of those terribly gorgeous eye sores lol but if i remember correctly the arms should work with new/other dread arms and th body attaches with a peg similar in size to the arm ones...i think? like i said been awhile lol

edit: sniped. what above said =)

That peg sounds like a gift from the gods. No way that thing would stay together without it

Good news everyone! A fellow member revackey, has just agreed to sell me his dreadnought! For a nice price too! From what he tells me, it's unassembled, so I get to go through the 'fun' of putting it together

And that sounds good about the arms. That plasma cannon is showing its age, despite looking amazing

Nice. The only additional info I can offer is that the model as a whole is a bit smaller-scaled than the newer plastic dreads. I have a the PC arm on my plastic dread right now, and the difference in width/thickness of the upper arm/shoulder is a bit noticeable. The peg/socket for the arm is actually larger and shallower than the one on the plastic dread, but you can certainly mount it with a pin, or enough glue.

Oh, and it is a bit top-heavy, too.

In thinking about my chaos dread, the least appealing part of the appearance seems to be the center sarcophagus section of the body in my opinion. I wonder what I'd get if I sectioned that bit out from between the shoulders and replaced it with the analogous parts from a venerable dread...

Is there a reason people won't get the Forgeworld dreadnoughts? They look stunning, and only come out $15 more including shipping.

I have two FW dreads, the Nurgle one and the Alpha Legion one. Aside from looking very good, they also are clearly the same model as their loyalist counterparts. I want something unique.

Is that what you get in the current box? I might have to buy one for the TH and HB arms. I have an unopened box I bought back in the 2ed days. It shows on the back it comes with the AC and PC right arms, and Scourge and Claw left arms. I have WD 221 in front of me (Aus version) and the mail order section shows the TB and TH arms were mail order items. I'm not sure if the site rules allow it, but I'd be happy to scan and post them up.

You know, I forgot the power claw arm! Anyway, I bought mine when I was playing 2nd ed and it all came in the box. I don't know what they did in Oz.

I bought mine from America back then, too.The box says it was made in the UK. Are you sure yours had the TH and HB in the box? Anyway, does anyone know what comes in the current box?

Edit: Just found this on ebay that has the exact options you mentioned. Odd that there were different releases.

And answering my own question - the GW website says there's a PC and AC + two CC weapons.

I watched a video on beasts of war (unboxing the chaos dreadnought). They didn't get a HB in the box, or the hammer, just a plasma cannon, scourge, hammer and autocannon....

I'm starting to think that the box might be random, other than the scourge and plasma cannon..... But I don't have to worry about that, buying second hand

I'm certain that I bought mine new in the shrink wrapped box and got all of the options, I think this was just after the model was released? Maybe later releases didn't get everything, I don't know. Most of the weapons are actually pretty crappy looking anyway. I built mine with autocannons but the barrels are short and stubby. I lengthened mine with a couple barrels from the old OLD chaos autocannons. Made my Havoc launcher later from the missile launchers on the same sprue

Just go buy a Forgeworld dreadnought; it'll be like 15-20 bucks more and look 10 times better.

That's the spirit! Both my original Dreads (Bjorn and the Chaos one) are made of lead. Very heavy. Very dangerous.

Hold up - you said 'hammer' twice there. I assume you meant that they didn't get the hammer, but did get the claw, right? I wish it still had the hammer. That thing was nice. The claw was always kinda lame.

My Chaos Dread has garnered a reputation for itself over the years. It has survived far more than it should have done (even surviving a Destroyer Weapon hit when every other vehicle around it died to the same shot). It cuts Eldar skimmers out of the sky with its TL-Autocannon and has never been taken down in HTH thanks to the Power Scourge. Eventually one of my friends named it - Triple-Corpse Hammer-Blow - and the legend was born. He hardly ever fails, despite the obvious drawbacks that Chaos Dreads have.

I'm currently awaiting the next Deathwatch rulebook that contains rules for Deathwatch Dreadnoughts, as converting the rules for Chaos Dreads (and, by extension, Triple-Corpse Hammer-Blow) shouldn't be that hard.

I love that sprue. I was lucky enough to get a'hold of some ancient plastic Hybrids in an eBay order a while back, and they came without the weapons stuck on but everything was loose. In there were two of those launchers and two of those AC's. Now I've got modern day Chaos Havocs with the old weapons, and one of the Conversion Beamers went onto a scratch-built Tech-Marine.
