Subject: Setting up monsters & handlers?

Maybe I missed this part in the rules.. but for monsters and their handlers like lizardmen razordons and salamanders.. are they set up like skirmishers? So you have your monster and 3 lil guys behind him all 1" apart? And in a full unit of 3, everything has to be 1"? or, do the handlers not really matter and they're just there to look pretty and count as "wounds"? If they are all like skirmishers, do enemies get -1 to hit when they shoot?

The handlers don't matter. They're only there as counters. In fact, my regular opponent doesn't even place them for his hydras.
They are not skirmishers either, so no modifier to hit. (Note, however, that lizardmen hunting packs have the skirmish rule separately.)

I agree with RZ if you can find a way to represent how many handlers the beast has left you can forgo the models compleetly.

So.. a lizardman salamander has 3 wounds normally.. with 3 handlers, he has 6? And then, those extra "wounds" only matter for shooting, or do they come into play for close combat as well?
For lizards anyway, adding extra handlers don't cost too many points, so if handlers = wounds then it seems like a good idea to add as many as you can if you have the points to spare.

Necros, that's not entirely accurate.
Any wounds that make it through on a monster are then randomized- a 5+ means a handler suffers the wound, a 1-4 means the monster takes the hit. Especially good for ducking cannonballs...
Hydras are an exception to all of that for some reason.

Yes.

Yes they do count in CC, but tey act as 5+ ward saves, it's like having 3 or 4 stunt doubles that get hurt instead of you on a 5+.
The rule states that any unsaved wounds suffered by the monster kill a handler instead on a 5+. So that means that the enemy just rolled against sallamnder WS, T and armor just so he can kill skinks 1/3 of the time
For lizards anyway, adding extra handlers don't cost too many points, so if handlers = wounds then it seems like a good idea to add as many as you can if you have the points to spare.
Yes and it alos means you are unable to eat all of your handlers in ome misfire.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the randomize thing. I think I get it now.
Unrelated I guess, but what about warmachines like cannons? Are they still like they used to be, where you charge the cannon but fight the crew?

Quick clarification request regarding that and multiple wound weapons.
Example: I hit your Salamander with a Warpfire Thrower (d3 wounds). I wound, Salamander fails to save. I roll up 2 wounds. I would now roll a d6 to randomize each wound, which could end up with 2 wounds on the Salamander OR 2 dead handlers OR 1 wound on the Salamander and a dead handler. Sound right?

Are they still like they used to be, where you charge the cannon but fight the crew? Warmachines are now a single model with split stat lines in essence, the crew models are just wound markers. The BRB tells you which part of which stats to use at which time.

A had a whole theory written up and then i checked the FAQ
FAQ wrote:Q: When a Monster and Handlers unit suffers a Wound from an
attack that causes Multiple Wounds, is the multiplier applied after
rolling to see who is wounded? (p73)
A: Yes.
