I've seen several Hive Nodes that look ike this: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/37260-Hive%20Node.html
Are they on sale? Were they, but they got withdrawn?
Or were they simply converted by the White Dwarf terrain tea, and then made by lot's of other people when they posted a guide on how to make them?
And did any of that make sense?

They are from the Battle for MacCragge set I think, in short, they were definately made by GW and available...

I can confirm that they are only available from the Macragge starter set.
But there are alternatives like the Forge World Brood Nest http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Tyranids/TYRANID-BROOD-NEST.html or maybe some alien bases like from Secret Weapons http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_26 .

A lot of Anphelion and Taros scenery is no longer in production and any sales they make on the stuff are just the remaining stock.

It's actually annoying that they're out of stock. I was planning on grabbing all 3 of the Tyranid terrain bits to use as objective markers.

I don't think they'd discontinue something that popular. They'd better not-there's enough of a shortage of Tyranid stuff on Forge World as it is.
If they are discontinuing them, that's probably because GW is making some new plastic ones.
