Hello all, I'm new to Dakka Dakka and really the 40k table top game in general.I've long been a fan of warhammer 40k and i play the games and read the books. What really inspired my army is the horus heresy books and the artwork on them are also quite inspiring for my models and their armor, weapons, etc. Wierdly enough however, this is my VERY first army ever, so I really don't know how to paint yet. I do think I'm a good enough modeler though

Atm, I only have 15 marines including 3 special weapons, a captain, and possibly either a champion for honor gaurd or sergeant or something else(depending on which codex i decide to use). Please don't judge my work too harshly as I'm brand new to all of this. Most of my force is primed already save for a few, but I'm still in the process of making the army, so its a work in progress. Feel free to ask me any questions on what i did or used. I try to be as fluff accurate as possible with these guys(meaning no mkVII, no modern weapon patterns, and older style backpacks. That pretty much means my army is almost all made up of the forge world stuff that recently came out[part of the reason i started this up]) After I finish this army, which will take a while, I plan to maybe do a pre heresy iron warriors or pre heresy blood angels.

P.S. Since I'm quite new and I'm still deciding on some things, progress will be very slow indeed, so please bare with me.

So I'll get right to it with the images!

First Off, these two are my Champion and Captain. I experimented on the champion's helmet to try and make it more dark angels-ish. The Captain(right) is really my piece de resistance. I tried giving him a noble pose as he leads the troops to battle with his relic blade and winged back pack, in MkIII armor ofc. The champion im not sure what mark he would be although i used the MKVI torso(only because my MkIV forge world shipment hasn't arrived yet) and MKIII shoulder pads. So I guess he could be considered mkIV because of the helmet.

these are two marines made heavily of the dark angels veterans sprue. The helmetless one I am thinking on perhaps making him a sergeant in the future.

Here we have 2 corvus pattern armors. The one on the left if you notice is a raven guard ally(whether or not i want to expand on this I'm not sure). The one on the right is a mixture of MkIII body with mk VI head and back pack.

These are two of my favorite. Both are MkIII armor, which if you cant tell by now, is my favorite mark by far (:. As the left marine and my winged helm marine are basically exactly alike, i shaved off the brow of the helmet and gave him a bayonet, oath of moment, and a dark angels insignia on the back pack. The one on the right is made heavily of The blood angels death company sprue(torso, legs, arms, and helm) When i saw it in the store, i knew this would work perfectly with my army so i had to have it.

I had to cram the unfinished MarkIV guy in there because he was an odd one out. Again I used the Black Templar's upgrade sprue and the death company sprue to really make this guy. I am waiting for my forge world bolt pistols and power fist to come that way i can finally finish him! I tried experimenting with green stuff on the middle marine. I didn't really know what i wanted at the time so i just covered up the grill and sides of the helmet to at least give it a mild pre heresy flavor. I intended this guy to be mark IV but as they haven't come yet, i had to make due with my mkVI armor that came so his legs, arms and torso are all MKVI(dont judge me) I tried forming a green stuff cloke around him and i was semi-successful. I got the form of it and it looks good in this picture but around back theres lots of cracks and holes associated with noob greenstuff jobs lol. Also notice the umbra ferrox pattern bolter. Lastly the Winged helmed MkIII iron armor marine i talked about earlier. He was the first i made so i really just wanted to see how he looked. He is based heavily off the astartes on the front cover of descent of angels(which along with fallen angels, heavily influenced this army)

for ^^

the astartes on the left is my attempt to moer accurately convert my MKVI armor available to me into MKIV. On both of these marines i attempted to change their helmets with greenstuff for more variety and i was moderately successful on the MKIV as it was a simpler design. The MKIII flamer on the other hand, not so much. Curse my indecision as I couldnt let my previous holes in the green stuff go(i was trying to go for the knight look) so i eventually just screwed it up and now its all bumpy and un even and ugh.

These two are my newest addition. for those who don't know the pre heresy weapons, they are the rocket launcher and meltagun. I was thinking on perhaps making a devastator squad with them but they don't really look the part, you know? the rocket launcher marine is a version of maybe mk IV armor with a mark III style head from Black templars sprue. And the one with the melta gun is mainly Forge world MKIII with a head from black templars upgrade sprue. I shaved off the T ring on his head and trimmed the ear pieces in an attempt to make the helmet more like MKIII. I may in the future trim the ear pieces even more.

I will appreciate thoughts on them, and will post more in future as the army expands

Nice work- the preponderance of MK III armor gives a great unity to the force.

And the two conversions that came out bumpy: you could just model them up with some battle-damage, scorch marks etc. to make it look like heat or impact did that to them

Looking forward to next installment!

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Thanks! Since the dark angels around this time were just off from growing out of The Order, I decided that they'd most likely have MkIII armor as it looks the most like a knights. MkII does as well but I didn't like the forge world ones because they have the aquilla on the bottom and only emperor's children had the aquilla on their armor.

And I was just thinking that too! My head is still to far into only the early model making process that i forgot i could do that

K! Expect more marines by the end of this month and perhaps maybe a list and codex to go along with the army!

Yeah I'm actually on that blog lol I'm Sar Luther on Warseer. I posted a link there to my warseer version of this. I had to be Sar Luther there since I couldn't be colonel Mustard. But yeah deiex's army was my primary inspiration.

I love your work, but I loathe that no one will even bother with my thread because your dark angels are vastly superior
