Where do you guys get your magnets? Ebay, in a nearby store, or online?

I'm currently looking to magnetize my destroyers to flying bases so I was wondering where to magnets for that and what size.

Thanks ahead of time.

Once a year I get mine from a games store when it trades at one of our national gaming conventions (I usually buy them in 50s) - because they often have other deals and its not uncommon for the owners to give away stacks of 20 or so with a purchase or just walking around to promote themselves.

Pretty much EVERY gaming order I get is shipped from elsewhere and magnets aren't allowed to be posted under our postal laws so I get them in person.

There is a store about an hour away by train that stocks them if I need to get them in a hurry though.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I get mine from http://www.first4magnets.com

Very fast at putting orders through if you order before 14:30 GMT, though I don't know if they'lll ship internationally.

7 and 1/2 hours after i ordered them, they've been sent out.

As for size, unless you replace/modify the stem, probably 1 or 2mm, though with a destroyer you're probably better off widening or replacing the stem and getting 3mm magnets.

I use two web stores in the US - Amazing Magnets and K&J Magnetics. I prefer Amazing Magnets, for their free sample pack you can have included in every order (remember to check the box at checkout time).

I bought a few on the cheap through Ebay, just to test strength and play with the process a bit. If you only need a few, you might be better off going the Ebay route. Most distributors deal primarily in bulk, so small orders can sometimes be unreasonably pricey. Shop around a bit and see what's out there.

Nowadays, I go with K&J Magnetics. Normal prices and shipping are reasonable, but if you look around their clearance section, you can occasionally find ridiculous deals on magnets useful for wargaming. My go-to magnets are 3/16" diameter x 1/8" thick grade N42 neodymium disks. One time, I glanced at their clearance section and found a pack of 100 of them for a fraction of the cost of buying an equal number in smaller packs. Bought and shipped for a price that puts most distributors and Ebayers to shame, just for waiting and buying a specific number.

My flying base kit would suit Destroyers, if you want to check that out.
