Heard this argument from a friend of mine.

GW should not update the CSM codex and here's why:
The fan base is so fanatical they will keep buying the models to use for counts-as armies. (I.E. World eaters / Night Lords CA Blood angels, Black Legion CA Wolves, Alphas CA White Cars (outflank & such))
With that going on they can just keep updating other codexes, including other marines & some CSM players will jump to a counts-as (Insert Loyalist) army that more suits them better.
GW now saves time & money as they don't need to update the CSM codex, the update others & the fanbase will jump ship to whatever suits them better.

Not a perfect argument but I think it's an interesting view point & please don't burn me at the stake for saying such about the beloved CSM.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

They don't need to update the CSM codex yet. There are still other third edition codices to bring to 5th before they should redo the fourth edition books.

I don't think you understand. He's not saying don't update it now he's saying DON'T update it, ever, there is no need.

I understand GW will update t eventually just saying that this argument could be used to essentially "Dark Eldar" the CSM.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Hey, why not drop all the codexes and just produce an SM codex for everyone to play as counts as.

You can make a 'Nid MC list using an SM special character and some "counts as" jiggery pokery, right?

...did you just refer to yourself in the third person Dorian?

However, they should just take away the other SM codexes and update the CSM codex with the full compliment of Daemons back in. Why update three codexes for 3 splinter factions of Space Marines, when the true separate faction, Chaos Space Marines, are in need of an update and have largely been relegated to wear a wolf pelt? The Angels of Death, Space Wolves and Black Templars have even LESS modifications to the list than the Chaos Space Marines (at least they use to before CSM got turned into Codex: Spiky Marines).

It seems the CSM codex could use a good update. And they should also get factional codices like the other Space Marines. Just an opinion, no facts to back it up.

Ideally they should have factional codexes. However another 8 SM codexes is not something I'd imagine the Meta would look forward to. The Legion rules and Books of Chaos from 3.5 is sufficient enough.

No I did not refer to myself in the 3rd person, this is actually something my friend brought up over a few beers yesterday & while I disagree with it I can see where he got the idea from.
