I'm probably only interested in looking at Necrons, Sisters, and Eldar, and more from a fluff perspective than seriously considering any of those armies. The rest of the hopefuls (Grey Knights, Black Templars, Tau, Dark Angels, etc.)... eh, not so much. Until they get around to revising Chaos, Chaos Daemons, Orks, etc., I'm running out of codices I personally care about.

I want 'Crons, they need one, DH and WH, also 3rd edition codices that need updating. BUT if DH and WH are updated, then Chaos needs an update too(both Daemons and Marines).

Then Tau and Eldar. Orks would 2nd to last, as they have a very good codex as is. Did I miss anyone? Independant SM chapters go last.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Currently Grey Knights (NOT Inquisition or DH) is up next. The next one will probably be Crons, as the rumors for that one is stronger than the others. Failing that, Sisters of battle as they're closely related to the GK and are not strictly a "marine" army.

I would very much like to see Tau and 'crons. Grey knights possibly but a SoB one (complete with HUGE new range of plastics) would be neat!

Eldar definately wont be redone for a long time. GW seems to want to steer away from the old style of Codex Writing and streamline everything into the new style (the one without the Grab bag armoury but has the "beastiary" section).

Grey Knights are almost certainly next judging by the rumour mill.

Remember however that only 3 IIRC (Tyranids, BA and Dark Eldar) Codices were released last year and similarly few army books, so I wouldn't hold too much hope for a large number of Codices coming out as they seem to take longer each year *grumble*.

Grey Knights (PREDICTED to be the first army codex of the year) isn't expected till May/April.
Also, there's demand for new WHFB Army Books to support (a bit late now really but still...) the 8th Edition release so I wouldn't hold out too much hope for a strong number of Codices to be released, as much as I'd like there to be...

Grey Knights, Necrons, Sisters. Because those three codices are still in third edition.

Dark Eldar is somewhat justified because they're overhaulling the entire range. BA and Nids however have no such excuse, since they had relatively few new kits (one of the Nid kits was a rework of the Forge World Kit).

I'm not denying that at all, but it's still a long time and just suggesting people don't get their hopes up too much.
Also, Blood Angels at least have more stuff coming, as do DE...

Had this thread come up 3 weeks ago, I'd say Eldar and Black Templar. Now I only really care about the Eldar book, as the Black Templar one is nasty enough. Having a squad of ten models that can have preferred enemy (from the EC), counter charge, +1A (chapter banner), +1A (holy relic), and furious charge (special skills) and only costing a little over 200 points (not including the necessary chaplain to get the banner/relic), I'd say they're still quite playable. Sure, I want their storm shields to be improved, their bolt pistols, chainswords and grenades to come standard, and up the EC's attacks and WS, but in all reality, it's currently a pretty good codex and for the most part, pretty balanced.

Eldar on the other hand need an update to compete with their dark brethren.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I wish for an Eldar update too, but currently no "newstyle" codex has ever been redone since their release, so we probably wont see eldar for quite some time.

Grey Knights are the next 40k army, O&G the next Fantesy.

Grey Knights will be getting a completely new Plastic range(including the Stormraven and possably a Psychic Dreadnought kit)

after that it's anyones guess between Necrons and DAs, for Fantesy it will probably be TKs.

They probably wont have a Dreadknight Kit yet. Given that GW usually leaves some of the juicier stuff out, probably we shouldnt get our hopes up for a Dreadknight kit.

They will most likely update the Crons or Sisters of Battle, depending on their definition of a "marine" army.

I'd like a BT codex out, personally. But giving an unbiased viewpoint? Necrons or Eldar, extremely so.

The only thing GW is likely to release that I actually care about is new plastic Sisters of Battle. Given that both Hammer and Anvil and the codices were pushed back in the same month they're probably a linked release, meaning the SoB codex will be released for December or January.

Way I see it (going by Marine, non Marine. And assuming that the Sisters are Marines):

GKs
Crons
Sisters
Tau
Black Templar
Eldar

If Sisters are indeed counted as non-marine:

GKs
Sisters
Black Templar
Necrons.
DA or Chaos
Eldar
The other marine codex that didnt get updated

6th edition will crop up around the necron or the second to last marine update.

That Marine/non-Marine non-sense never held up in 40K's publication history.

The rumour mill has strong hints for Grey Knights, and some for Necrons (Mat Ward writing the Codex), Sisters (Models being worked on) & Tau (some early leaks about rule-brainstormings).

Personally, I would expect two releases that are fairly "new-model-intensive" (though not on the scale of the Dark Eldar) which would likely be Grey Knights in the Spring and I would guess Necrons in the fall (Halloween anyone?). Both are said to be undergoing some intensive re-design, lots of new plastics, etc.. .
In the summer, we'll see perhaps some "second waves", perhaps a "summer of flyers" expansion/white dwarf, and/or a less "new-model-intensive" Marine-dex which could be Templars (older) or Dark Angels (more "need" for a dex).

The off-chance is perhaps that Tau get the summer release, as they need rules more than models (2 to 3 new/reworked kits ala Blood Angels this year would probably suffice + perhaps a flyer along with the "summer of flyers"). But I wouldn't hold my breath.

2012 then I would guess perhaps "Sisters" and "Eldar" as bigger releases with again a (model-wise) smaller Marine Dex. Eldar could quite possibly be "the last big 5th Edition release" with 6th Edition, a new Ultramarines/Space Marines Dex and an "Eldar vs. Marines starter-box" in 2013. Ok.. pure speculation here I think.

The Marine/Non-marine pattern is only evident in the 5th edition release. Vanilla SM, Imp Guard, Space Wolves, Tyranids, Blood Angels, Dark Eldar and now Grey Knights.

I am hoping they'd break this, but ever since the Marines started getting full on dexes, 40k turned into basically Space Marine battles =(
