I actually recommend the Raging Blast series of DBZ games. Ignoring the anime's idiot fanbase, the game itself is actually quite fun. Aside from that, there's not many games outside of RPGs that I would play on the PS3 that I wouldn't prefer on the PC.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

The Scott Pilgrim game and Deathspank are pretty fun... but you can get those on other systems.

Valkyria Chronicles is pretty fun. I only tried a demo of it but it seemed engaging. The God of War games are pretty cool.

Deathspank is fun if humour alone can carry a game, its mechanics are insanely grindy.

I suggest bioshock, fallout 3/new vegas, dead space and the orange box myself.

@chaos0xomega: Yeah I left them off the list. I debated them but left them off because I didn't really care for the games. The first one was mostly because of the save feature and check points. You had to go really far in game to get to a check point. Pretty frustrating killing the same 100 enemies a few times over.

Demon's Souls
Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet
DC Universe Online (If you can manage the monthly fee, it comes out in two days)
Uncharted 2
Killzone 2
Infamous
MAG
God of War 3

These are all excellent games that you can't find on any other system. I especially recommend the top three.

I can say without a doubt my personal favorite game is Demon's Souls. Seriously if you like RPG games this game is amazing, it's not for everyone though as it is very difficult.
Some other fav's in no particular order:
MGS4
Heavy Rain
God of War 3
Little Big Planet

Yes Demon's Souls is good for a certain crowd, though I wouldn't consider it a RPG. I know it is labeled as such, but it just doesn't feel like one to me. Heck I consider Final Fantasy XIII more of an RPG than DS.

Also I forgot one on my list: Mass Effect 2. It comes out this month for the PS3. I played the hell out of this game on the 360, so if you have never played it, please get it on PS3. Heck I am getting it again if that tells you anything about how good this game is.

I wouldn't get the Orange Box for Ps3, honestly.
TF2 on Ps3 has absolutely zero support, Half Life 2 is getting kinda dated and Portal is only worth one playthrough.
I've heard that Killzone and Uncharted are superb Ps3 games, perhaps start there?

I've never understood it when people outright ignore attributes of something to better suit their taste, even though genres exist specifically for clarification purposes.

Demon's Souls is considered an RPG because it has elements that are unique to an RPG. Just because it doesn't play identically to your favorite RPG, or because it borrows certain aspects from other genres doesn't mean that it isn't an RPG whatsoever. If you tried to describe DS to someone without calling it an RPG, certain aspects of the game would be completely lost on someone. I think it's entirely suitable to refer to Demon's Souls as an Action RPG, as...that's exactly what it is.

Also, disregarding Final Fantasy XIII as an RPG would also alienate literally more than half of the genre. If it's not an RPG (JRPG specifically), then what the hell would you even call it?

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the best FPS out there. Mechanics are better and the online gameplay is excellent.

A Must have.

Getting half-life 2 and both of the episodes is well worth the price you normally pay for the orange box (between £5 and £10 over here), though i'm not a TF2 fan at all.

Call me old school or whatever but those games alienated themselves. If swinging a sword and grinding through levels to get loot is considered an RPG, then you might as well consider every game a RPG.

I would call Final Fantasy XIII CRAP. It fell so far off of the the genre that is ceased to be a RPG. It would be akin to Deadspace 3 being about making a home life with your wife from the first game and raising necromorphs as children. Sure one could consider it a Survival Horror game since you are "surviving" the "horror" of marriage and yeah those babies in Dead Space 1 really need their diapers, but in all honestly it would be a SIMS in Space game.

Loot and equipment is a hallmark of an RPG, as is statistical progression of your character/s. There are plenty of games without these features. You act as if calling a game an RPG is an accolade or something, simply because some of your favorite games fall under the title.

Wait, what? So it doesn't even deserve a genre, simply because you dislike it? That makes a whole lot of sense.

Final Fantasy XIII is a (J)RPG to the core, as it shares all of the characteristics of one. The changes are not nearly so drastic as you make them out to be; if you can't call Final Fantasy XIII an RPG, then literally none of the other Final Fantasy games could be considered one either, and you'd have a lot of people to contend with on that one. JRPGs make up more than half of the genre. Just because you dont like them doesn't mean that they don't share at least some loose similarities with the rest of the genre.

The title of 'RPG' isn't some award that a game has to earn.

Call me oldschool but I though RPG's were role playing games not grinding loot games.

There is no other title for such a game (aside from 'Dungeon Crawler'), so 'RPG' has become synonymous with loot and levels, because that has been a trademark of every single RPG so far.

Going by the definition of the name itself, literally any game where you play as a character is a 'Role Playing Game'. That's far too broad of a definition to be useful to anyone.

Demon's Souls, Uncharted 1/2, MGS4 (boring cutscens aside) and Kilzone 3 (comes out in a month) if you can get the God of war collection and 3 for cheap i would thoroughly recommend them. Bad company 2 has a thriving Ps3 community online so if you want a military shooter fix get that straight away (or possibly wait for the inevitable ultimate edition that comes with the vietnam upgrade). If you can get the ps3 version of Ninja Gaiden 2 for cheap i would recommend that as well. The Ps3 version of FF13 is better than the 360 so if you like final fantasy get that. Finally download Oddworld: Strangers Wrath when it comes out on Playstation Store: GAME OF THE DECADE!!! LAIR is a horrible turd that comes in a game box and is shaped like a disc, AVOID.

I hear Lair is actually pretty good if you download the control pack from the Playstation store. In any case, its going for 10 bucks used nowadays...

Thanks. I am glad you agree with me.

Look it is actually simpler than what either you or I are making it out to be. The fact is, the definition of an RPG has changed greatly over the years. Think of it as what has happened to TV. I do not consider many TV shows as "entertainment", (Dexter aside). Many people do, just like there are many people who consider FFXIII a RPG. I am a minority, I get that. That doesn't mean I can't have an opinion.

So yeah you are right, but you would have been wrong 15 years ago. Take the core of FF XIII and put it in FF VI's graphics and era and the game would have been even worse than it is now.

Personally I consider FFXIII to be a digital interactive story, not an RPG. It is too linear to be an RPG in the traditional sense.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Alright a couple of things you should let us know is if you can purchase M rated titles(I don't know you so I don't know) and what kinds of games you enjoy.

You put up AC2 and RDR which means that the Uncharted series, Saints Row 2, and Grand Theft Auto are up your alley. Saints Row 2 and Grand Theft Auto are M rated and if you rely on parents then there may be issue with buying them seeing as though you are a criminal in each who can run around killing things or do missions.

Red Dead Redemption is Grand Theft Auto in the wild west while Saints Row 2 is an almost comedic take on Grand Theft Auto but has better customization. You can customize your character's face, expression, taunt, compliment, body build, clothes, gang, gang vehicles, cars, and 'cribs'.

Other games I would recommend are Red Faction: Guerilla, MLB: The Show, the Orange Box(sure there's no STEAM support right now, but they may be getting something soon.) in addition to those recommended in earlier posts.
