also good against high toughness units and particularly Wraithguards.
EDIT: looking at the strength, this means that the Bane Wolf can effectively move at Cruising speed and still fire the Chem Cannon? (Edited again when I realised I called it the wrong tank)

MechaEmp: Any hound variant can move cruising and fire the main cannon. The banewolf however can move cruising and fire both the hull flamer and the chem cannon.

I think I might load up on a few Banewolves then. Cheaper alternative to the Valk since I already have 10 or so russes.

Ultracrap.
You have a weapon that needs to get roughly 3" away from its target to do real damage. That means you're basically driving into assault and melta range. Plus, your opponent can also spread out, minimizing the casualties.
And against MCs, it's laughable. Yes, you did a wound. Now they use their likely S10 against your rear armor. A single autocannon is likely to achieve the same amount of damage, but for less than a tenth of the cost.
It's one of those vehicles where the theoretical damage done in absolutely perfect circumstances causes people to swoon, and fail to notice how very little damage it does in normal circumstances.

Ailaros- why would you use it against a single target? It is a fast vehicle, so it can run up 12 and dump death on a marine squad hanging in cover. Such units rarely have the luxury of spreading out and still benefitting from cover. This is especially good against devs, longfangs, etc. Wounding on 2s with no save is horribly brutal and will likely wipe the squad. If another squad then trys to run up and melta it, who cares? It did its job and is now likely drawing the melta off heavier targets. It's all about target selection. Saying it is bad because it isn't good against the wrong targets is a bad critique. For a fast attack slot and its price and given that Meqs are very common, I say it is a solid choice and likely to greatly impact how a meq player plays.

Yeah but most likely the Marine player isn't stupid and your hound variant will take a volley of missiles from the long fangs and dev teams before it can get into range and kill the long fangs/dev teams.

Exactly. The banewolf may be a fast vehicle, but it's range is SO poor that it's still going to be spending a turn very near your opponent's stuff before it gets the chance to attack. If it's a threat, it will be destroyed before it can do any damage.
Plus, what terrain are you playing on that you can't spread out AND get cover? Especially with a squad as small as a devastator.

If the Bane Wolf was about 30-40 points cheaper or had the 12" extension of the Hellhound cannon, they'd be acceptable blockers, but 130 points for a suicide run is just not acceptable. This is doubly true when you consider that foot marines have gotten a lot less common.
If you're going to use one, use it defensively in the back line to ward off deep-strikers.

If they gave you the option of cutting down on the little armour it has and making it outflank-able i think people would take it.

Pretty much all the Hellhound and variant tanks should have been 20-40pts cheaper, and come with smoke launchers. Their current cost is very expensive for all of them, especially relative to something like a Baal pred, and having to compete with Valks/Vendettas doesn't help. While The Vendetta is admittedly undercosted and directly comparing the HH/DD/BW with it isn't entirely indicative of being overcosted, most other comparisons bear this out as well.
The Banewolf's primary purpose is to make Drop Pod'ing units and the like **** their pants, anything that's going to be close to the IG tank line and clumped up is going to hate this thing. That said, it's relatively easy to mitigate this either through spreading out, careful deployment, or just shaking the damn thing.

Hmm, well, since I generally have 5+ chimera chassis running around not counting the Banewolf, I find that target selection becomes an issue. I find many marine players clumo to cover to avoid plasma/melta vets. We tend to use varying sizes of cover, but not huge swaths of cover- more stuff like scattered buildings, some barricades, trenches, etc. I find units like devs and LFs like to get into buildings and tend to clump due to LOS lanes (no good spreading out if they can't see to shoot anything). When you have AP threats, I notice AS units cluster in cover more. Also, A bane can hide behind another chimera- Long Fangs and Devs are infantry and so unless they set up with really good LOS, often they cannot see vehicles behind. I also like to use the Manticore, Hydras, etc. so there is a lot to kill.
Not saying it is the best ever, but disagree that it is a useless "ultracrap".
I will definitely agree that it is overcosted and has very stiff competition with the vendetta (which is probably the best choice for the slot) and that all the chimera chassis vehicles should come with smoke and searchlight standard. And I would also agree that AP templates are better served by a Russ/Basilisk/Colossus/etc., but that is HS.

All in all, the BaneWolf looks like fun ^^. And if you want to use it, do it. Or proxy it at first a few times. Get a feel as to how to use it and go from there. If you dont like it, you dont have to keep it.

You could hold them in reserve and have the rest of the units focus on the tank killing specialists so that when the Bane Wolves come on, they don't stand a chance to kill it.
