My old club is putting on a tournament at Cal Poly in SLO. If you are in the area and want to get some good games in against some really good players, I suggest making an appearance.

Here are the rules, I see a lot of Spure Posse in there! But Alex is the TO, so that doesn't surprise me.

OK here is the official tournament rules:

We will use swiss pairings, so that after 4 rounds, only 1 player should have a perfect record.

1500 pts, standard FOC, all current codecies allowed. No restrictions on DH/WH allies.

4 rounds, 80 minutes each (possibly 90), sign in at 11am.

Missions will be randomly selected from the rule book. The first 3 rounds will feature each mission and deployment once, and the fourth game will be random out of the 6 remaining possible combination.

A secondary objective will be in place if the primary ties, and VP used to break ties after that.

In case of an odd player count, a bye will be used, counting as a win, and will be given to a random player in round 1, and the lowest ranked player who hasn't already had a bye after that. However, so as to make those players not feel cheated out of a game, I will have an army with me, so they can play a game if they want.

I believe we will have UU220, the conference room, but that is still up in the air.

I don't think I missed anything, but if you have any questions, let me know.

[EDIT]-
As well, I will be asking each player for a list when they sign in, so that I can check so any discrepancies. Please try to make these legible and intelligible. As a guideline -for hand written lists, list each squad individually, listing only squad size and upgrades. I don't need to know that your SM captain has a boltpistol as he comes with it.

I will be going with some Bay Area guys and hopefully a few Dakkites can make it out as well. Should be a good'un!

Thanks for posting this Reece.

I don't really post on dakka much, but I'd be happy to see some new faces here in SLO.

Just to clarify some things:

This is a purely competitive event, no sports, painting, battle points, etc. The winner will be the man with the best W/L record at the end of the day.

I will be using INAT for any questions that the GW faq doesn't handle.

To expand on the map a bit, that is the University Union on Campus. Here is link with directions from 101.

Reece, say hi to everyone for me! Hate to miss this.

@Nuclear
No worries, dude. I hope a few people see it and come! I'll be bringing my terrain, too. So count on at least three more tables. Is Jason bringing his tables?

@Platuan4th
Yeah for sure I will. Too bad we had to move! That was a really good game club we had gong there. We'll miss you at Adpeticon too, brotha.

I haven't seen or heard from jason in a while, so I have no idea if he is going to be there...

Yeah, we kind of lost our regular weekly players after you left. People are still playing, just not as often, it seems.

We are going to have great turnout for Saturday though. I might need to add another round or think of something if we go over 16 players...

That sucks. We had a really good group going there for a while. Oh well. I heard of lot of folks are playing Warmahordes now?

Well, we'll have a good one Saturday, I am looking forward to seeing you guys again.

You should start posting on Dakka, this is where the cool kids hang out! Haha, and you are one of the most knowledgeable rules guys I know.

Nuclear,

Since your event format is so similar to ours I'd like to feature it on our blog. I'd also like to input all your participants into our ELO database.

It takes a little work on your part to compile the data and send it over to me but if you want to do so I'd love to get it all up on our site. I'd need round by round results, final standings, participant names and their corresponding lists. I normally don't just take input with event results from people I don't know but since your format is so similar to ours and Reecius can vouch that's good enough for me.

Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in doing. It would be a great way to get more data onto our site. I'm always interested in seeing the results of competitive events like this and then cross referencing them with our existing data.

@Kevin Nash
You actually know Nuclear, or have met him. He won best painted at one of your events with his Biel Tan Eldar.

And if Nuclear isn't into tracking the data, I'll do it, for sure. I bet he doesn't mind, though.

Oh I see, Congratulations! He has a very nice looking army.

And yeah if you guys would like to be featured just send along the information and I'll put several posts together about the event and plug the gaming group and potential future events. It doesn't need to be real time but the earlier you can get it to me the better. If you want bonus points send me a flickr link or picasa photo gallery that I can use to spruce up the coverage.

I want to get more coverage of events like this onto my blog. I can only run so many tournaments myself, so when other people are putting events like this together I'd love to get all that information up there, especially the army lists. I want that list database to become a valuable resource and learning tool for competitive 40k players.

Yeah, Alex (Nuclear) is a good dude. He's got a great handle on the rules, is competitively minded and plays a mean game of 40K, too. He kicked the crap out of me last time we played, although he has yet to defeat my mighty Footdar!! Haha.

We'll get that data to you for sure though, either form Nuclear or myself. Thanks for offering to cover the event, I enjoy reading your blog.

I'll see what I can do. I will have all the tourney results recorded, and I'll try to get lists down after the day is over.

It went great! Not as big of a turnout as we hoped, some last minute no-shows, but good fun. Nuclear was tracking everything so I think he should have all that data for you.

Thanks for the compliments Reece.

As he said, the event went off without any hitches, other than a smaller turnout than expected. Though, I'm not complaining. 13 players was more than enough for me.

I have all the results for each round, and player names, but I forgot to get lists from people at the end, so the best I can do on that front is some very vague, generalized lists.

Give me a day or so to get everything all nice and neat. I am still getting over a cold. It didn't help that I had to spend all day yesterday setting up and putting away tables and such.

For right now, I will say that Reece won it, bringing a very nice Footdar list. We had one other player with footdar, and I was playing footdar as well for the bye/ringer army. It was my first time playing them, as I though I'd have some fun with the ringer army, and I got to say, I really liked how they handled.

Army turnout was as follows:
SW: 3
BA: 2
Eldar: 2
then one each of: SM, CSM, Tau, Orks, Tyranids, DE

one of the SW, the BA and Tau were the second place finishers.

Yeah, I couldn't believe there were 3 Footdar lists! Haha, I thought I'd be the only one. They are super fun though, and I think 1500 is the sweet-spot for them.

I've posted a results page here:

I'll put up the lists as time allows.
