In laymans terms, nuking the living (shortly dead) daylights out of whatever you want to purge.

Oh, i see. I remembered seeing on a thread or something that nukelear weaponds were band and though what happened withn the death korpe was related.

Just nuking the feth out of it, I'm guessing so much that not even bacteria survive, "purging" the land.

They aren't banned it's just the IoM has more effective weapons that don't poison the area they use them on...

Nukes make places uninhabitable. If the Imperium wants to do that, they have more effective weapons.

They usually don't want to do that though, so they can just throw bodies at a problem. One thing the Imperium can't run out of is warm bodies.

The words you are looking for are nuclear, weapon, banned, with, and korps.

Even HH novels have places on earth who are "unhealthy", some of them craters from nukes.

The IoM uses missiles like deathstrikes ( maybe the "atomic weapon" or equivalent? ) and the REAL solution :
vortex missile.
Doesn't just kill, removes its target completly and thus far cleaner than nukes in usage

The nukes we have now would be far more effective at making a place uninhabitable, 38000 years in the future? Probably even more effective.

Dude, Atomic Weaponds are TOTALLY a band in the Imperium. Kinda like an Appetite for Destruction era Gun n Roses thing going on, with some sweet harmonies and effing gigantic pyrotechnics at the live shows! If you can catch them on the next tour, do it for sure, because their singer is kind of a nut. Might quit at any moment, you know? Then it'll be too late.

Modern nukes are sometimes hundreds of times stronger then the one that hit Hiroshima, I would shudder at the type of nukes the Imperium has. It would make an area uninhabitable at least for centuries via nuclear winter if a planet experienced mass-bombardment (which would be necessary under most circumstances). That's time the Imperium usually doesn't have to resettle a world.

Add this to the fact that 40K science can be very different from real science, it means that the effects of nuclear weapons are more devastating and longer lasting in the 40k universe.

lets see krieg was purged with nukes and trench warfare and in the GG series an entire hive was taken out with nukes

Apparently not what?
The Krieger have to live underground, the surface is a hellhole.
It was never known whether the Zoican forces or the defending forces of that hive were the one who set that nuke off. Though it did destroy the hive so it must have been a big one.

In Rogue Trader you can purchase nuclear projectiles for your macro cannons.

In Prospero Burns atomics are classed with Magma Bombs (the projectiles fired by Space Marine bombardment cannons) as weapons of mass destruction being used on Prospero.

Atomic weapons are primitive and leave a planet's ecosystem suffering throughout generations, and risk mutation in the population. Incidentally, they're rarely used. why bother when you have more effective weaponry which DOESN'T leave long-term ecological damage?

Using a nuke on, say, an agg-world would mean the commander is destined to be executed for his stupidity. Same with a hive world really because there's so many people there for the radiation to effect and mutate.

absolutely LOVING the other side of the conversation due to the spelling error in the title!

Most modern Nukes don't have the "dirty effect" of fall out if used properly as air burst.
or the neutron type weapon system that kills all living things but don't harm structures.
so in theory the imperium could use nuclear ect weapons and probably dose in space battles.
