Hey Dakka,

Our 40k Club has recently turned ravenously toward WHFB and we've all been learning and playing at the same time. I play Skaven and several spells and banners allow damage to be dealt to an opposing unit in close combat (i.e. Vermintide, Banner of the Under-Empire, etc.) and each entry is ended with the statement "Hits are distributed as per shooting." Our group of WHFB rookies (myself included) cannot agree on whether this means the casualties inflicted do, or do not, count towards combat resolution. I am under the impression that since the wounds are dealt in the Combat phase, they are applied to the resolution, and that the statement "Hits are distributed as per shooting" is to clarify wound allocation in the instance of unit of monstrous infantry and/or pulling casualties from the back, etc. What information is to be taken from this statement in terms of combat resolution and wound allocation?

If this is a dumb question, or has an obvious answer, I apologize in advance. We are all very new to Fantasy. Thanks!

If it's in the close combat phase, it counts towards combat resolution. So the banner of the under empire (start of close combat) would count, but vermintide (magic phase) would not.

Hits distributed like shooting means exactly that. It is just easier to say that then go though a whole paragraph of saying how/when/if a character would get hit by that effect.

As above. It means that you allocate hits as if you had, instead, shot at the unit. It means you cannot just allocate everythign on that poor wizard in front of you, for example. In fact characters, unless in a unit with less than 5 RnF, are totally immune to "hits distributed as shooting", unless the shooting attack has the sniper special rule.

So chariot impact hits, banner of U-empire etc all count towards combat res.

Thanks guys. I forgot to consider that Vermintide is in the Magic phase (I only read it out, it didn't come up in play) and since units in combat are immune to Panic from casualties inflicted (?) the only benefit of casting Vermintide in that case would be to reduce the number of models in the opposing unit.

That was my impression for anything occurring in the Combat phase, it just wasn't agreed upon at first. Thanks again!
