Hello all. This situation happened the other day while watching a 40K game at my FLGS. One player assaulted two of his opponent's vehicles with a Monstrous Creature. He claimed that since the two vehicles were close enough, he could assault one vehicle and be close enough to contact the other vehicle. He was quite adamant about it. Since I was not in the game and his opponent was not too concerned, I decided not to get involved. However, I did not think the ruling was right. Was it a legal move or was the player trying too hard to win. Thank you.

That was not a legal move. The first model moved in an assault is restricted to hitting only the unit you're directly assaulting. It's only additional models that can charge other units.

So, a single model unit is unable to assault multiple units at once.

No. The only permission given under 'Assaulting Multiple Enemy Units' is for "remaining" models to assault other units. Units of 1 do not have a "remaining" model.

As Grakmar said, and as page 34 tells you, you declare an assault against only one enemy unit, and the first model in the assaulting unit moves into contact with the closest model (singular) in the enemy unit the assault is declared against.

Assaulting Multiple Enemy Units, on the same page, states that any remaining models in the assaulting unit can engage other enemy units, subject to the usual assault move restrictions.

You need multiple models in the assaulting unit to assault multiple enemy units.

It was a illegal move. Single-model units may only assault 1 unit and cannot base any other unit, even if that unit was close enough for him to do so.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I had always played that one model could not assault multiple units.
