I was at my local Borders (bookstore) yesterday evening and I saw they had on display a Halo novel. Scanning the jacket notes it appears to be about the Forerunners.

Has anyone seen or read this?

Yeah, it's called Halo: Cryptum. Seems interesting enough. I just wonder if 343 Studios is gonna' pull a Bungie on the story and retcon the gak out of everything when the next installment of the video game series is released.

Who cares, the books are far more interesting then the games if you want a story.

I recommend it if you're interested in Halo's background. However this book is not full of action like other Halo titles; if you enjoyed those for their fight scenes, this might not be for you.

Yeah, the campaigns are far too short for any serious development to happen really (ODST had the best narrative and style BTW), but it would be nice if the games and books followed the same storyline at least. After reading Ghosts of Onyx, I had a hard time believing you were actually going to play as a SPARTAN-III (I thought someone had messed up their notes) in Halo: Reach. It was and still is a decent read though, just not 100% true to canon.
