I attempted to put together the zoanthrope model last night. Was the guy who modelled this thing sniffing glue at the time? The head is like half a pound of pewter connected to the base by maybe a millimeter of pewter. How are you ever supposed to use this model and not break it by looking at it? Any suggestions on how to work with this awful model?

Pinning and green stuff between the pieces - works a bit like bluetac.

Pinning and epoxy resin glue are your best bets.

^^ What all those guys said.

It's top heavy but with pinning and epoxy cement, I've put together three nice Zoeanthropes on various bases, and I have three more to finish. They work fine.

Wait until you get to Venomthropes.

Did you get it second hand or new? I'm pretty sure the Zoan has a tab at the bottom of the tiny piece of scenery it's tail is attached to that helps it stand up. (Mine was second hand and had that piece of scenery removed. I havent really taken a look at the new zoanthropes. However the old metal 3rd ed ones had tabs that help them stand up)

That said, I prefer 3rd edition Zoanthrops and some non-GW models over the 4th edition model.

I like the 4th ed model. The head at least.

I bought it new. I have no idea how to pin, or even how to go about pinning.

I had the same issue with Necron Wraiths. Pinning and green stuff. It works.

Pinning requires a dremmel, and small piece of sturdy metal. Something on the lines of a paperclip or similar. First, drill a small hole in both ends. Fit the small metal in the holes and match the two pieces together to make sure there flush. Before you glue, use atiny bit of green stuff. Glue the metal bit into the the ends, then fasten the pieces together. If you used green stuff, it may mushroom once the pieces are together. Trim it with a knife, then sculpt whats left into the model. Let it dry. This is how I do it, never has failed.

Everyone has there own method, best to expeiment with a junk model, to get a feel of how pinning works.

It's not hard. Once you do it, you'll wanna pin ALL your pewter.

Just drill a hole into the bottom of the base and the bottom of the scenry that the tail is attached to. Then glue a paper clip through both to pin. It creates more surface area for the glue to create a bond.

Or better yet, you could avoid that hellish model and go for the resin not-Zoanthrope from Troll Forged.

How is it in size comparison from the GW one ? I could see people arguing it not being allowed to be used due to different size (cover and shooting comes to mind).

You don't need a dremel, not even for metal. The GW hand drill has served me extremely well for my pinning needs.
