Here is the test model for my fen guard army, I decided to try something new and decided to give "dipping" a try, not a bad experience overall, very impressed with how quickly the painting comes together, in all I spent about 15min painting this, minus the dry time.

pre-dip;

post dip;

after drying and clean up, also flat clear coat;

Overall I am very happy with the color I picked, I used PolyShades, Mission Oak, a nice rich dark brown. I think for the bulk of the army I will thin the polyshade down a bit with some oderless mineral spirits, I felt like it was a little to thick, I would also do a little more clean up around the kilt so that that pattern shows through a little more.

Any other thoughts or tips?

Ashton

+100 awesome points for the kilt.

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Im surprised at how well the dipping worked. I was looking at the first picture and then the next and I thought that without knowing that it was dipped I would swear that they are two differently painted model.

The dipping turned out great!

That looks awesome. I would probably dread painting a whole army of kilts though lol.

Fantastic! Seriously though, 15 minutes to paint, including the Kilt?! You must be a speedy painter!

Yeah, that's how you do it, all right.

Any chance of a drilled out barrel?

To be honest, probably not, the barrel isn't so secure and I am afraid if I put it under the stress of drilling it will come off....but I may try.

To everyone else thanks for the compliments, I now have 8 kilts made, I need to do 7 more then I can begin painting. I decided to order some of the kilts from victoria miniatures, I ordered 15 so that is 1/2 of the troops I will be feilding at 1500, I have decided that only my vets will where kilts, so that means HQ's, platoon HQ's and vet squads, everything else, i.e. normal gurdsman, will be a combination of catachan and cadian bits. I should probably get a whip thread going at this poiint....

Very impressive looking, couldn't tell it was dipped unless someone told me.

Looking good!

Did you dip and spin, or blob and sop?
