One would presume no, mainly because Chaos Dreadnoughts are often deranged psychopaths, leading them to do foolish things, like fire every single part of their ammunition at their allies to satisfy their crazed minds, DP are meant to be able to lead massive armies of chaos in all shapes and sizes, and a being that can't think properly wouldn't be very worthwhile for the chaos gods to invest time in...

Well, in The Chapter's Due a Dreadnought gets possessed by a Daemon Prince.. but that's slightly different.

It's an interesting idea, and in this universe almost anything is possible, but I have to say this just seems too unlikely.
Regular dreadnoughts are kept in a sort of trance for most of their existence, awakened only in times when they are needed to fight or offer guidance to the chapter. Chaos dreadnoughts, however, have been almost dead for 10,000 years, witnessed all the horrors of the warp, and the experiences of their life before almost death. This has caused them to become completely insane and be little more than a killing machine.
Also, not much of a body to turn into a daemon prince.

I think that if you were to select the right chapter, like the Iron Warriors, that it would be really cool!

I refer you to the Word bearers novels, in which there is a dreadnaught (I forget his name) who is quite capable of leading an army, probably more so than a khorne bezerker lord anyway.
Would be really cool to see a conversion done on this idea!

He could probably become a Daemon Prince of Khorne through enough slaughtering, though the insane state of Chaos Dreadnaughts would make it pretty difficult. If I remember in the latest CSM codex it talks about the Dreadnaughts having to be chained up and basically forcibly shut off when it isn't combat so they don't destroy their own ships.
And I think that Word Bearer dreadnaught still thought it was the Horus Heresy, he was fairly deranged. At least in Dark Apostle anyway.

The dread in the WB books could give sound tactical and political advice, and at times also showed... a kind of compassion, forward thinking and created bonds with some of the marines.
Although other times... his mind would wonder and start blaring out "push forward to the emperors palace" and whatnot...
While not insane... it is still a bit odd. And i'd assume increadibly rare.
With the old chaos codex you could be considered a daemon prince without haveing demonic stature (so your regular size) so i have no idea why, say, an iron warrior (mini) daemon prince wouldn't consider putting himself into a dreadnaught... or at least, an armoured killing machine similar to a dreadnaught.

Whether it's possible or not, it would make for a pretty awesome conversion.
I can see a dreaghnought/nurgle demon prince now. Horn, cyclopean eye, tentacles, daemon sword, dessicated wings. It's so awesome i could cry...

I remember in Fire Born audio CD.
There was a Daemon engine shaped like a warrior that got bigger the more it killed.
Maybe you can have a Daemon bound to a metal
Prince-shaped Dreadnought body.
That was kinda what they did to bind the Daemon in Fire Born, they took a Champion being possessed and bound him to the machine.

There are three Chaos Dreadnoughts that I'm aware of who were sane enough to lead anything. First is the Warmonger from the WB books who was already mentioned, then there was Warsmith Berossus who led a large force of Iron Warriors, and third was a slaanesh-dedicated commander of the Violators chapter named Demetrius.
However, even if there are some sane Chaos dreads, they are pretty rare and they would have to score some serious victories to achieve ascension. A dreadnought prince is possible, but they would have to be incredibly rare.

I would imagine that if a Dreadnought was chosen to be a prince what remains of his physical body would just get an overhaul by the warp and it would leave most of the dreadnought body behind.

Not so, Slick. Chaos Space Marine Daemon Princes still have their power armour on them, probably permanently attached to them.

Actually, I'd think that Tzeentch would. Given that he will trick you, decieve you, while doing none of that at the same time. Anything could/will/won't happen in his domain.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Well, I think he'd more likely just increase the power of a Sorceror Dreadnought (Raise your hand if you want those in the new 'dex! And they damned well better be better than the Bangles Libbnoughts!) the longer it lived. Infact, a Sorcnought's (I'm inventing names all the time now, it seems..) power would most likely increase anyway, as it wouldn't be worrying about itself in the physical sense. Kind of like a blind person's hearing improving.
It'd be even less likely for a standard Tzeentch-worshipping Dreadnought to be gifted with Daemonhood.
It's actually not very likely at all to find a Tzeentch-aligned Dreadnought, considering most of them just want to kill sh*t.
More likely Tzeentch would just grant protective wards/spells to the 'noughts.
But, as you say, anything is possible with Tzeentch. He's just as likely to grant you Daemonhood as he is to turn you into an egg.

Turn you into an egg, and have Fateweaver(Kairos) sit on you until you hatch into a Warp-Warhead...
