lootas have their deffguns (heavy d3 48" S7) and a free upgrade to a mek gives a kustom mega blasta (Assault 1 24" S8 gets hot) is it even worth it to have any meks in a unit of lootas?

I don't believe so.

No meks are ever needed, now if those meks could carry a bosspole that would change but they can't, making there shorter range guns useless in your loota squads.

regular meks suck.

Might take one in a burna squad riding in a wagon, but probably not. (to keep it mobile, if you do this always take the oiler)

KMB suck even worse than the guy holding it. It has a higher chance of killing the user than the enemy. (enemy in cover: 13.75 percent kill rate, mek rolling a 1: 13.83 of killing self)

Meks are a waste in those squads, as everyone has pointed out.

The ONLY time I could see replacing a Loota with a mek, is if they are in a wagon of some kind. Then he would be used to keep the wagon moving.

The reason that isnt such a good idea though? Simple. A BigMek can do the same thing, but add a 4+ cover save to the vehicle

I never use meks with Lootas.

However, with that said, I never use the "BW Loota Bunker", either. If you were to use lootas in a BW that acts as a bunker, then yes, there is a reason for the Mek, as he can repair weapon destroyed results on the BW, increasing its survivability. This is even more true if you stick a Killkannon on top of said "BW Bunker"

Last year, there seemd to be a rash of "Loota-Filled BW Bunkers" hitting the table for some reason, although I can't fathom why. I prefer to just stick my Lootas in cover, and save my BWs for rolling forward with Deffrolas!

A big zero meks for me, just a nice big mob of 100% lootas

The only time you would ever, even remotely, consider taking a mek is if you have, say, a looted wagon with a boomgun in the back along side your loota squad.

Keep the mek next to the wagon in case they get a weapons destroyed and render it almost useless. That way you can attemt to repair and if successful, all meks around the galaxy will cheer because they will have served some purpose.

Yea see, even then its pretty thin. I always take 2 bigshootas on my boomgun wagons, for that very reason. So far, Ive yet to loose a BoomGun to a weapon destroyed
