I have a few Ard boys that I have made without ranged weapons. The idea is they are front line, and charge in with their shields. I realize a shield doesn't make an ard boy harder than ine without a shield, but it really helps the look of my mob. My question is, would my ard boys e considered "ard choppa and slugga boys", but without the slugga? And skip any ranged combat? Or is this against some kind of rule. I know very very little about the rules.

Here is the page in the showcase I have displayed them.

'Ard Boyz are supposed to carry whatever armor they've scrounged, nothing wrong if you depict it as a shield. Just make sure to tell your opponent this unit can't actually buy shields - their unit still comes with slugga+choppa. Nothing demands you shoot, ofc... but in close combat you must use the full number of attacks you can get.

I'd suggest that you give the guys with shields a slugga somewhere. There are some nice bits on the stormboyz sprue for doing that.

Then you're WYSIWYG again and no worries.

i would say its a rule of cool. as you are only changing the "basic wargear". If you have any upgrades like power claws they would need to be depicted.

as long as all the sluggs/choppa boys are the same and have no special weapons not depicted it would be fine as long as you tell your opponent that they are basic slugga boys.

Have you considered modelling them with shield+slugga?
If anyone objects to a shield being a CCW, get a riot shield, and hit them with it, then ask them again.

more of this

although i think changing out the basic wargear is never much of a deal as long as they all look the same weapon wise, easy to depict, etc

Rule of cool...thats freaking awesome. Also model them with shield + slugga...could have them pointing their guns over the shields or around it, maybe kneeling behind it(tho it does not seem too orky). Either way sluggas should be easy to model on and then there can be no problem.

Those orks look so sweet. I kinda like the idea of having some shooting over their own shields too.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I may try holstering sluggaz on them, without making them look wierd. Shooting over a shield that has been slammed into the ground actually is a pretty cool idea. I may do that with some of my grots. There's no such thing as an 'ard grot is there? It would just be for looks. And they are chicken gaks :p

You could also add slugga barrels to the front of the shields; gives that nice 'Ard boyz armor WYSIWYG, and shows the sluggas(firing from the shields) wich looks kinda cool(at least on some warmachine Khador models, look up Man-O war shocktroopers)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Once again, WYSIWYG only counts for upgrades. If you can't get rid of wargear, you get it even if you don't model it.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?
