Here is the beginnings of my 'Ard Boyz mob. There guys are going to be the "front line" of my 'Ard Boyz. They are equipped with close combat weapons, and shields. The idea is that the shields allow them to get into the enemies faces less hurt then they would have otherwise. Though, I'm sure the rules don't incorporate anything like that, correct me if I'm wrong please, it is primarily for looks that they be up front. I still have to do about a dozen more 'Ard Boyz, without shields, but heavily armored, to fill out the 'Ard Boyz ranks, and a 'Ard Nob too. All in due time.

Sorry about the pics. My camera gets kinda funny with focus when taking closeup pics.

Here is the wip blog for these guys.

Very original, well done too. They are painted good as well, but might I suggest some scorch marks, or some shrapnel sticking out of the shields?

Thanks for the positive responses. I don't claim the originality for the idea. I've seen shields on several minis on the Internet. Not always ork tho. The shields are made from scratch, and the should and or shin armor. Same with the iron gobs. Having spikes or shrapnel sticking out of the shields is a great idea. I may stick them on before I clear coat. Would be good for some close combat brawlin

Very cool - it's a shame they're Black Reach boyz though, since you can tell through some of the weird arm poses.

i like it wandering. i have considered using the 'coffin shield' for orks.

i'm curious what rules do you use for the orks? presumably they're not choppa + slugga nor are they big choppas,.

To be honest, I have not played the game yet. I am quite into the painting and modelling. I don't know how all the rules work. I make my orks how I like to see them. I suppose I could go negotiate with an opponent them to have big choppas with an opponent, and increase their point value, but I am honestly not sure of all the rules. These guys had sluggas, but I removed them and replaced them with the shields. They have not been clear coated yet so I can still work on them. Maybe I could holster some sluggas onto them or something. Any ideas?

Yes i enjoy painting and modelling more than playing aswell
I think the big choppas can only be used by the nobs, not by the boys.
I think your best option, if you chose to play with them, would be to holster some sluggas on their belt and call them 'ard choppa + slugga boys.

I've considered using the coffin lid shields before because i can't work out how to make my own.

What materials did you use to make your shields, and leg armour? I love them! . I think I can tell from your site that you used green stuff for the rivets, what did you use for the shields and armour? plasticard / cardboard?

I searched around for a suitable and sturdy material to use for the shields. I have a little bit of plasticard, but it is thin. I was looking to use some metal. Here shows a small directional arrow sign I bought a walmart. It is a nice thin aluminum, easy to work with. The majority of the job was done with tin snips. I did it orky too, no measuring, just eyeballing everything :p
I used super glue for the construction. As for the rivets, I stopped using green stuff, because it was becoming a pain in the ass to use in small amounts. So what I started to do was cut small pieces of insulated wire, and glue them on. And used a lot of glue, to rounds them out and not look like they are sticing out so much.

Oh wow! The shields are actually made from metal, that's awesome!

I cut the circular sticking-out bits of sprues for my rivets although they come out a bit big. Apparently 'split peas' are good for rivets, i have yet to try it though.

Yeah, the shields, arm armor, leg armor, and iron gobs are all metal. Easy as pie to work with. Tin snips for big cuts, small pair of side cutters for small cuts, dremel for putting "teef" pattern on the gob. And green stuff for the straps that are made to look like they are holding the armor on.

Love it, really separates them from your normal boyz. Though I'll agree with Scrazza in that you should add some scorching or shrapnel to them so they look like they've taken some hits already =D
Also putting some of the classic checker marks across some might work to. All in all love how they came out.

As for playing with them I'm sure it'll be fine with most people, there are few players I've run across (Though I haven't been playing long so this could be do to the small pool I've played with) don't care if the gear is 100% accurate as long as you note the differences before the fight and have them written or recorded somewhere for later reference.

Here is the rest of my 'Ard Boyz Mob. Though they lack the shields the front line boyz possess, they are still rather 'Ard! The 'Ard Nob will be created later. I am still brainstorming on how I should design him.

The pictures show them in small groups, to allow closer pictures, and more detail.

And here is the full Mob in battle formation!
