That is a really interesting list. Most Daemon players I talk to consider the Bloodletters to be the weakest of the troops choices. I like them myself, and plan on using them when I make Daemons (my next army) but I was planning on taking large units.

Do you find the MSU tactic helps to mitigate damage on the smaller squads?

Also, I love Screamers myself, but have you considered dropping all the shooty units/screamers on turn 1? It would depend on the opponent, but I would think that would help to at least keep vehicles stunned so that your assault units could come in with less damage done.

Anyway, nice game against a tough IG list.

Well for the purpose most demon players have bloodletters are the worst. They cost the most for a unit to just sit there and hold an objective. (Horrors contribute to the game, so are worth extra point). I've heard that large units of bloodletters work, I've tried it once myself and could not justify it so I cut it. The msu style lets me put more targets down turn 1 on my initial drop, aswell as let me be more risky with deep strikes. With big squads you need to be much more careful with deep striking or you will quickly lose 250+ points to mishaps. With small squad I can risk a small squad, have it mishap, put another squad where it was, and statistically it wont mishap.

Screamers I find cant make up the back bone of an army. They are too vulnerable to being assaulted and tied up. I've always been a fan of simillar waves, to mitigate the damage done if the wrong wave shows up so I try to split it as evenly as possible. Against less extreme armies I'll even sqap a fiend squad for a screamer squad in my prefered wave to help even it out more.

Hopefully that helps answer your question

Yeah it does. I may have to rethink my list choices. I love BLs so I want to use them as when they do get into combat, they rock the house.

I agree with the similar waves theory, it means you always play your game plan regardless of what you get. I see what you are saying about the big squads, that makes a lot of sense.

I have a tactic I have been thinking about and I think it has merit, but I have not tried it. What about dropping 3 naked princes? 80 point distraction units that once in combat, wreck shop. What do you think? Dumb idea? I figure you can be ultra aggressive with their deep-strike as they are small. This forces your opponent to deal with them.

Nice battle report. It is strange to see a Daemon player not using any heavy support. I like the idea of running smaller BL squads to allow for more diverse wave splits. I tend to clump my waves based on target saturation. So one way is SG's greater daemons, daemon princes while the other is mass infantry. However, it seems the balanced waves you used worked well. Then again, maybe having 18 fiends just worked awesome, they are that good...

3 naked princes are awesome at 80 points a pop. I had a "daemonic horde" that I messed with some that was just brutal - 3 naked princes, 4 khorne heralds in chariots is effectively 7 daemon princes for 580 points or you can do the tzeentch ones like you were running for a few points more.

I had honestly never thought of 80 point princes, but they have a lot of potential now that you bring up the point. That's honestly a fantastic idea Reece, I'll have to try it myself.

Nice one! I was thinking something really similar. MSU Daemons with more units than can be killed in one go by the other player. I am glad to hear you had success with it.

@Yermon
Yeah, I think it has merit, especially against the largely static shooty armies we see now. A fast, shooty army like DE would not be good at all, but you can mitigate that by taking some horrors as troops to blast the vehicles.

It's a thought anyway. You seem to be doing just fine with what you have, though!

I think 3 bare princes could do some work. If the GT wasnt this weekend. I'd try to get some practice games in with running 2 (as my tzeentch prince is the same cost as 2 bare princes haha). I'll try it out some other time for sure though.

Yeah, we'll have to get a practice game in trying it out. I think it could be really good.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to try to squeeze them in my 1850 list, but maybe at 2k I can try working them in. Hmm

Looking at your blog, down at the 2000pt DA list, I don't know how legal that is. IIRC DA squadrons of speeders say "One land speeder in the squadron may take a Typhoon missile" or something along those lines.

Hehe truth be told its not. I found that out a little bit after posting the list. I think I addressed how I plan to deal with that in the comments. But thanks for checking out the blog!
