Hi people!
I have recently started collecting a Warhammer Fantasy army (Lizardmen). I have never played Fantasy before, and have no idea how it works, what's good/bad etc..
All I have is the Lizardman Battalion, and am aware I need a Slaan Mage Priest. I want to get a Carnosaur Rider, and maybe a Stegadon.
What am I need of for a decent game?

The carnosaur is less than great imo.

Terradons are big hits.

My old Lizardmen list was:

Slann, engine of the gods
3 units of 6x3 spearmen
2 units of 10 skirmish skinks w/ blowpipes
1 unit of 20 temple guard
2 units of 3 terradons
2 salamanders
2 razordons

Those all sound solid options OP. The carnosaur just being the worst of a good bunch of options. I would experiment with what you have and see what you like most. Do you want heavy saurus? Heavy on skinks? maybe try kroxigors? There's plenty of valid options to choose from for lizardmen. I would recommend though salamanders. Every lizard man player I know of swears by these.

What are the benefits of Salamanders? They look and sound awesome, but what's so great about them?

For their points they can dish out a lot of killing. Great for helping hold a flank, spitting fire at enemies as they go. Kind of like a living artillery piece.

Skink are always good imo, poisoned shots are nice. Lizardmen at one of the best when it comes to magic so make sure to get something in that area. Some calvary is nice, but expensive in points (and money for that matter)....I like salamanders. just cause.

2500pts
500pts
Approx. 4000pts of Lizardmen

Quite simple: Template weapon with not too bad combat stats.
In my last game with my Lizards my pair of Salamanders incinerated the better part of my enemies WoC Marauder horde before he could do any damage with it. If they would have been an army more vulnerable to panic it would have been even more awesome.

A box of skinks = 168 points on the table; $35 dollars.
A box of saurus = 222 points (with spears); $35 dollars.
A box of cold one cav = 330 points on the table, $35 dollars.

Looks like if money is an issue, buy more cav; it's the best way to get a lot of points on the table for the least amount of money.

errr cavalry got have been nerfed quite a bit. I'd be careful before I spent a lot of money (and a lot of points) on Cold One Riders just to see them get shot to death.

The calvary you have from the battalion should be fine for now (be wary when gluing them together so they'll be able to rank & such).

I suggest getting a Slaan and play smaller games to get a feel for what you would like to add.
