Hello,
I am making a 1500 point space marine army, and I would like some more experienced players could give me some advice.
HQ:
Space Marine Captain W. power weapon and Storm Blotter 118
Space Marine Chaplain W. Jump pack 115
Troops:
10 Man Space Marine Tactical Squad W. flamer and missile launcher, Sargent has chainsword and bolt pistol, 170 squad has Rhino 35

Put melta bombs on your tact squad. A 5 man assault squad w/ 1 chaplain isn't going to do anything really, except die really fast. Your sternguard need more men and w/ combi-meltas. Predators are more effective if you use them in a pair and you should invest in lascannon sponsons. If you use a Ironclad, or any dreadnought w/ a CCW you should probably put him in a drop pod.A space marine captain w/ a powerweapon and storm bolter isn't going to do much damage either. For you HQ, I'd suggest going for Shrike, Vulkan, or Lysander. Shrike gives your army fleet, Vulkan makes your army have TL flamers, meltas, and mastercrafted THs, and Lysander is a beast and gives your army Stubborn. I'm not a big fan of scout bikes so I'd suggest dropping them. Are you going for CC oriented or more shooty? I can't really tell by your basic list setup.

I would drop the captain, take a librarian in terminator armour instead and stick him with the termies.
Agree the assault squad is too small - push this up to 8-10 models to go with the chappie. Give the sergeant a melta bomb and power weapon.
Scout squad I would give sniper rifles.
If you really like scout bikes then take the locator beacon and stick the dread in a drop-pod. Pod, terminators, assualt marines can then DS without scatter to the location of the bikes and the pod can come in on T1. To pay for this, I would drop the sternguard and possibly the assualt launchers on the iron clad. If you're going in close and personal you could also trim the cyclone down to a HF on the termies.
This is an aggressive list. You need to hard and hit fast. Not optimal, but hopefully with as little change to your army as possible ...

drop the heavy bolter from the scout squad you don't need it..
and i would find something else in place of the scout biker squad.. they are a bit points waste imo what are you planning to do whit them??

Frees up another 30 points. Drop the locator beacon on the pod (10) Toss the plasma pistol on the captain he doesn't need it or hell toss the captain all together, you don't need him. - 130 Drop the assault squad entirely & the chaplains jump pack, you'll see why in a second. now you have 185+225 = 550 Now put that chaplain in terminator armor with a combi melta 35 points (515) Buy those termies w/ chaplain a LRC w/ extra armor & MM - 275 (240) Change those rhinos into laz/plaz razorbacks - 40*2 (160) Take a librarian for one of those combat squads in the razorback (Psychic deffense from hood plus useful powers like nullzone & force dome) - 100 (60) Give those razorbacks extra armor - 30 (30) Replace the Ironclads storm bolter for a H flamer - 10 (20) Give the drop pod a deathwind launcher. Shorter range yes but you should be dropping right on top of the enemy.

Hi, in your 1st list you have one good unit, but then ypou leave it, Sternguard veterans, they are good, leave assault squad and command squad and captain and take full sternguard squad with combiweapons in DP, you can combat squading them after landing and with your ironclad it is good assault line for you. I dont know how another playres, but I use only 1 HQ in 1500 pts army, in 1750 i take second, but not always. Chaplain and Librarian are good HQs, also MotF.
To your troops - give your serg. combiweapons, combimeltas are good.
Scouts - snipers are good if you want take objective near your deploy zone or this obj. is in your deploy zone, give them ML or HB.
Terminators - standard termies arent the best termies, they are good maybe with Lysander only, better are with TH/SS, anyway if you want use them, the best combo is take LR as DT
Predator - standard heavy support, multiplatform vehicle, 2 of them are good
Maybe this help a little.

You need those terminators in a Land raider. Otherwise they DS in, get shot. MAYBE assault something, then get to footslog around the board getting shot to bits. Assault units need to be mobile if not there is no point in having them.

If I were you, I would have at the very least some power weapons on those sergeants, otherwise you've got some radical dead marines if they get in combat with anything. I don't like scouts personally either. They just die so easy and are almost the cost of regular tac marines, but if you do take them, get the heavy bolter because SM scout heavy bolters have are poisoned=awesome.

The new list looks ok i guess but do those sternguard have combi weapons? if not sub out something for combi weapons and make sure that land raider has extra armour and a MM. You could also trade the termy chaplain for a termy librarian. The librarian fils more of a support role but if you chuck on a storm shield and let the force weapon rip against independant characters it can be quite powerful. Might need to upgrade him to an epistolary aswell bit expensive though. Just read through the codex too to get a better understanding of the role of each unit etc

Ok, but to give the sternguard combi weapons, ill need to cut somthing. Same thing for the land raider. What do you recomend?

take only 7 stern in DP, give them 4x combimelta and 3x combiflamer, and take for your termies standard LR, and give your scouts camo cloaks if you want use sniper rifles. You are in 1500 pts still.

Over all it seems to be a promising army list. but why not drop five guys from a tact squad and then maybe add a cheap captain.

Hi Armadeus. Yes you need a LR. It will be the most efficient way to deliver your termies in battle. they will certainly be flexible by providing a quick response on any flank you may want to reinforce on.

What is the role of your dread? Why drop him like you are?
What is the role of the TAC marines? If your scouts are home base objective holders what are the TACs for? What is the flames/ ML combo good for?
How do you plan on using your sternguard?
Would extra armor be good on your crusader so it does not stop moving it's package with an unlucky roll?
How will you deal with transports and heavy armor? You lack enough AT to really do the job. Here is a hint, a MM at 24" is better at destroying av 12 than a LC. TL AC on a dread also help a lot in this role
How do you plan on using your deathstar? At 1500 points you have over 500 tied up in one package. What is the plan for it.
Finally, don't take every bit of advise as gospel, there are different ways to play effectively. Ask 'why' something is suggested. See how it fits into you strategy, and what tactics it can give you

Scouts need Cloaks and a Missile Launcher. If you're gonna use them with Sniper Rifles.
Use a Crusader, and take a multi-melta on it.
Take a bare Libby as your HQ. Null Zone and his Hood will do more for you than the Chaplain, and with less points.
Take less Sternguard, and give them combi-weapons. A squad of 5-7 with 1 more combi-melta than flamer (5 will have 3 melta/2 flamer, 7 will have 4 melta/3 flamer). It's much better than taking a squad of 10.

I wouldn't use a naked dread in a pod with no kind of support. And if you un-pod the dread, then I would un-pod the sternguard also. I would upgrade the dread to an Ironclad, and run it behind the LRC, so those units can support one another. I would the put the Sternguard in a Rhino instead of a Pod, so that you can use them as a rapid response team and get your melta and flamer shots where you need them. A bare Libby with Avenger and Nullzone could then ride with either the sternguard or the Hammernators. I would also find the points to make one squad of tacs a flamer squad, with a combi flamer on the sarge, and the other a melta squad, with a combi melta on the sarge. That way, in objective games, you can squad them, and leave the MLs sitting somewhere with a good firing lane, and move around with your flamer and melta team doing the job where they need too. You could find points dropping the sternguard to a five man, with 3 combimelta and one heavy flamer, then buy a raxorback with them and still have room for the libby with them. You would then have two templates with the avenger and the HF, and plenty of melta. And psychic defense. I personally play C:SM, and recently switched from a chappy to a liibby, and am very happy with the added resources that it added to my list. Automatically Appended Next Post: And definately put a ML with the scouts instead of the Heavy Bolter.
