These forces turn up all the time in Black Library Fiction. I know there used to be a Cultist list for them somewhere, but heard it was canned by GW. What do people do now to play Trator Guard? Do we just self-limit ourselves using an IG army and then ally it with a CSM or C Daemon list? I could see the new Conscript and Penal legion rules working well...

Imp guard proxy rule is about as close as you can get.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Old lists of "Lost and the Damned" are still floating around in the internet and they are probably okay for private games.
Current IG Codex of course can be used for traitor guard as well.

Best option might be buying the Imperial Armour books IA5-IA7, esp. the first one, where there are updated rules for traitor guard units and even special models for all those, but of course that might get expensive

There is also an updated version of the "Renegades and Heretics" rules available for download on the forgeworld website, while some would whine and rage about the use of forgeworld rules in normal games, it does seem fairly balanced and fair to me. But you best bet would be to keep an army able to use the normal imperial guard rules also, incase you run into anyone who fails at the "its only a game" part of the hobby or for tournaments and such.

If you want to go the way of forgeworld rules the badab's legion list from IA9 is pretty awesome. It is a mixed marine/guard list where the marines act as the evil overseers. Also, marines can use guard units for bonus coversaves; the guard take a few hits when they do this though.

I would probably just go with the guard codex for normal games. Unless you have nice opponents it can be a bit weird springing forge world on them. Although if i was in the store and someone said "fancy a game with my cultist daemon horde with allied super daemons from IA79" i would definitly play.

Here the direct links, as they are a bit hidden on the FW website:

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I really don't see what the problem is that people have with FW.. unless its some type of throwback to the first book when 'can I use forgeworld' was usually accompanied by a baneblade being plonked on the table!

They are essentially adding the depth that the codecies (especially the 4th edition ones still doing the rounds) left out - the Eye of Terror codex can be recreated with any of the Vraks books (or even the Badab ones if you want a loyalist slant).

I try and tell people about FW whenever I can, really the rules are quite balanced, and I have never ever had anyone refuse to play me when using their stuff (although being gracious when you pull out your army and explaining to them is a basic courtesy).

The sink.

Do the later lists in IA 6 and 7 also have the random leadership?
