Well, I've had this set of Space Hulk minis for over a year now, and I've just had so many projects to paint that they've been on my back list for a while. Ironically, in that time I've painted quite a few Space Hulk sets for other people.

As the first of the Genestealers, I did the Broodlord. He's meant to set the pace for the rest of them, with a color scheme that isn't too close to the official one, but not too far from it either. Anyway, here he is:

Nice, I'm a big fan of the more natural colour schemes.

Thanks. I was looking into using a color scheme to match Wretches from Gears of War, but the scheme took on a life of its own once it got onto the mini.

I really like that colour scheme. It is totally different and makes it so fresh. What colours did you use on it?

Ok, the colors here are a little more complex than a lot of the ones I use:

- the flesh started out with P3 frostbite (a super light blue). I shaded this by thinning down a mix of Frostbite and Skorne Red, then again with a mix of Frosbite and Battledress Green, and spot shaded some spots using Skorne Red and Battledress Green mixed together. Throughout all of that, I made sure that the red was more prominant than the green.

After that, I reclaimed the surfaces with Frostbite, then started highlighting up to white.

- The carapace is actually a pretty standard Iosan gray color. It is Greatcoat Grey, shaded with Sanguine Base, and highlighted with Cryx Bane highlight and last with Frostbite. It is essentially if you take a grey, shade it with a very dark red, then highlight it with a very cool almost white-blue color. I think it turned out rather dynamic.

Garden Ninja... Don't I know you from CMON? oO
Time to be able to subscribe to an artist without paying a monthly fee...

Anyway, this is a great miniature you painted there. I wonder how every monster in the universe manages to gather a pile of skulls at their feet, but that's another riddle yet to solve - and has absoluteley nothing to do with this miniature. What I wanted to say is that I like your paint scheme - it's different to all the other red-and-blue schemes you get to see... and looks like a crossover between a working suit and natural armour. Very, very nice painting.

Kind Regards,
Rogan (who is happy to finally have bought a copy of Space Hulk)

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. GREAT idea

Do you have to paint the Space Hulk stuff yourself?

Huh? Wonder what's that supposed to mean - who doesn't?
But that's none of my business, so I'll just switch to what I actually wanted to say:

Those wretches bear a striking similarity to genestealers... If it weren't for the lack of the extra pait of arms, I'd say they are a case of copyright infringement ^^

/e: stupid me -.-
@ Melkhiordarkblade:
Yes, you have to. Unless of course you want to play with plain blue stealers or plain red terminators. But they're realling worth painting it. At least the terminators, that is. Great models... *sigh*
*wants a copy*

They are not pre-painted. A lot of people just play with plain red or blue minis, like Rogan said. Some paint all of the minis, and others commission professional painters to do it for them.

Since I'm one of those professional painters, I've painted quite a few Space Hulk sets already. This one is from my own set, and I wanted to do something different with him.

That skin-tone is top notch. Thanks for posting up the colors you used.

I look forward to more of these.

Yeah, I've got all of the other 'stealers started. I painted the carapace first, and then got distracted with other things. I'll get back to them soon enough, I'm sure.
