I'd go for the later though I'd consider adding a few more bands to the bottom to make them appear more like stereotypical Samurai armour. But, yeah, the angularness of the second set makes them look a little less techy than the first and similar to earlier suits of Japanese armour in my opinion. For the price however, I'd consider just green stuffing a load of them.

Just how samurai-esque do you want to go? You could make cheaper and more "accurate" sode by simply layering thin strips of plasticard.

I would say a mix, but more of the second. Also, I look forward to seeing these marines done.

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.
