I'm a little confused on the point cost of painboys in nob squads and flash gitz. Do they replace on nob/flash git? Or do you only pay the 30pts for him? If you look at page 82 and 83 of the ork codex and look at the example squad of ork nobz and calculate the points they only cost 30pts. Not 50 like most people say they do..can someone help me out clear this up? Thx.

It replaces a nob, so you pay for a nob and then upgrade to a painboy.

Ah well hears the thing...it doesn't say upgrade to a Painboy.like it does for ork boyz upgrading one for a nob..it just says a nob may be a pianboy...replacing one of the nobz in the squad size..( you need 3 min for a squad so you can take two nobz and a Painboy and it be legal)

So to replace a nob you must have bought the nob you are replacing, surely?

So you buy 3 nobs, you then replace one of the nobs you have "bought" with a painboy. This gives you 2 nobs and a painboy.

Hears my argument...it states a nob may be..not a nob may be upgraded to....and look in the codex and they give you an example of a nob squad with a Painboy.

I think it is as follows

Squad 1:

Nob1
Nob2
Nob3

Squad 1 with pain boy:
Nob1
Nob2
Nob3
Painboy1

Because hes right if it was an "Upgrade" it would say so, i think the squad can just include a painboy.

if you have no Nob to start how does that nob become a painboy?

The unit is comprised of at least 3 nobs, you must by your 3 nobz before 1 of those nobs may become a painboy.

For your argument the squad numbers 3-10 nobz, you must purchace 3-10 nobz before any of those nobz that you have may become painboyz.

Then explain the example of the ork nob squad on pages 82 and 83 of the ork codex..if you had to pay for the 3 nobs to begin with then adding a Painboy would be an upgrade.

Then explain that the example of those pages ARE NOT THE RULES

The rules are clear; you are *replacing* a nob. If you have not bought that nob you CANNOT replace that nob.

I forget where it was stated exactly, but that was a typo. Look carefully at the rest of the codex, youll find more. The way you work it out, is you have to BUY the nob, and then PAY for one nob to become the painboy. Seriously you think granting all the nice things a painboy does, they only cost 30 points?

So a mob of 5 nobs including a painboy will actually be 4 nobs + 1 painboy.

Stop trying to get the Painboy cheaper, it's +30pts on top of Nob/Flashgit cost.

If you price out that Nob Squad, the points work out for paying for the Nob, and then paying to make him a Painboy with a Grot Orderly.

The other thing that could be pointed out(just to set your dreams on fire, stomp them out and then urinate on the ashes) Is the cost of the Painboy is +30 points, not just "30pts".

Can you buy nob wargear for the painboy? Can you give a painboy a power klaw? I see no purpose in the 'urty suringe or whatever wound on 4+ weapon he comes with.

No you cannot give the painboy a power klaw; at least not if you want him to have doc's tools(to grant feel no pain). Doc's tools and 'Urty syringe are both exchanged for Slugga and choppa as a whole, if your nob does not have both slugga and Choppa then he cannot exchange both to get 'Urty Syringe and Doc's tools.

Kel is correct, the key to the entry is the +30. The squad is bought as Nobs at 20 pts per. Then you can make one nob a painboy for +30 points to the mob. This +30 occurs after you have paid for all of the Nobz in the mob.

You buy a nob then upgrade him to painboy. Same thing as upgrading to captains/sergeants/ect in other armies from a standard goon.
